Walking home to meet my parents at my apartment, I was reminded by seeing the ballons and the tents that today is the first day of medical school for the U. Michigan Med incoming class of 2005 -- and that, eight years ago this very time of year, my own journey, here at Michigan, began. It's been an amazing, incredible journey, and one that still has a distance -- the hardest distance -- yet to go.
Often have I written in my diary about all the generous folks to whom I owe so much -- friends, colleagues, mentors and teachers alike. Most of all, I owe to my family -- and especially my dad and mom -- a debt and a love that can neither ever be fully expressed or repaid. It made me very happy that they were very happy the day I began here, eight years ago this month. They were very happy the day Gauss finished his journey and took on the velvet of green, just over a year ago now. And I hope that, in two years time, I can make them just as proud again.
It's been an amazing journey, these past eight years, with chapters upon chapters I could never have forseen. The last ones are about to be written. :-)
