Coaster Summer (2): Comrades at the Point

The storm clouds roiled. A burst even of lightning lit the sky. And framed before that background, the blinking lights rising high of what was still the second tallest, fastest roller coaster ever built by men, four hundred and twenty feet of sky-fingering steel spire. Strapped in to my right was resonance42, who, well, adrenaline and him are old, old ( Read more... )

Some information for you my friend.

TTD is not the first 90 degrees UP or 90 degrees down coaster. Hypersonic XLC (extreme launch coaster) is a compressed air launch that is 90 up and 90 down (not for long I will admit).

TTD is not the first LIM coaster. Flight of Fear (PKD, PKI, etc.) are LIMs as are Volcano the Blast Coaster (2 sets of LIMS though neither is from the initial leaving the station), Joker's Jinx (the ride that broke at Six Flags the day you were there) and many others.

TTD *IS* however one of the tallest out there and they set it up to go slow not just for safety but also so that the weightlessness will be the greatest it can be. And with Kanga Ka out of commission (probably for the rest of the season), TTD is alone in its glory at the top of the heap.

And when you have graduated and have some 'free' time; boy do I have a list of places you need to go to ride some unique rides that I think you will appreciate even if they aren't the biggest and baddest rides out there.

I will admit to liking Magnum more than Millenium but maybe I need to give Millenium another chance. Aw shucks, another trip to the point, ow-ow bend my rubber arm. WEG

Maybe next year ... esp. if you can pull a day off of your busy schedule.a

(grin) Many thanks for the perspective. Appreciate commentary from someone (you) who *really* knows what they're talking about, Coaster wise.

Yet another reason I'm looking forward to the Interview Trail M4 year: excuses to travel to Coaster parks around the country. The northern ones will be closed, alas, but plenty of coasters in the West and Texas. :-)
