Ashu had finally worked up the nerve, as she sat on her bed with her phone in one hand, to call Zane. She resisted the urge to chew on her lower lip as she dialed the number, especially considering how long it's been since she saw the telepath

Of course, that question was exactly what Zane picked up to hear. And he just blinked.

"Well. Hi to you too, Ash."

It sounded like he was trying not to laugh.

There's a thunking noise on her end, because she's hitting her head with the phone before talking again.

"Um, hey Zane, s'up?"

She's just glad he can't see that she's blushing.

He can probably hear it in her voice. And he's grinning as he answers.

"Not that much. I could ask the same of you. I was wondering if you went on another time jump or something."

"No, life decided my metaphorcal balls were worth kicking," She's trying to make a joke but it's kinda flat. "I've been busy with school, actually. Sorry I didn't try to call you sooner."

"Eh, life happens, Ash. We manage as best we can," he said, smirking a little. "Besides, I've been kind of busy myself. There've been missions, Xao's kid, all sorts of fun stuff."

He had met Yuki. The whole squad had met Yuki. That had been fun.

"Sounds fun," Ashu started to fidget with the sheets on her bed, and she rolled her eyes at the mention of Xao. If she wanted to hear about Xao she'd call Proto and insult the woman just to see if she could get the 'bot angry, which is something she mentally filed away to do later.

"I think I adopted a Protoman too, if you want weird stuff happening on my end."

"You're Protomansexual I think," Zane said, rolling his eyes.

Though his eyes narrowed. He generally wasn't too keen on talking on the phone but sometimes he could pick up stray thoughts of the person he was talking to.

"And how very mature of you, Ash. Do you normally bait your ex-boyfriend like that?"

"He's been sleeping on the couch!" Ashu shot back.

There's a huffing noise at that.

"Considering the only time we ever end up talking to each other is to argue about something completely retarded? Yes, yes I do."

"Why do you still talk to him if all you do is fight? I swear, Ashley, he drags you down," Zane said, rolling his eyes.

Not that he cared much for Proto either. But Xao loved him for some reason. And so Zane would deal. Not like he and Proto had ever actually said more than a couple dozen words to each other.

"Because, he's family," Ashu answered, and that was all she was going to say on the subject.

"Anyways, would you like to do something, or dunno..." Poor attempt at a subject change go!

Zane would welcome the subject change.

"Sure. What do you wanna do? I'm free."

Ashu ended up being quiet for a minute or two, before laughing a little.

"I have no clue what to do, we could go out, or um... Stay in." And the blush is slowly returning.

"Staying in would bring us back to the way you greeted me," Zane teased.

He had pointed out the many things a telepath could do without even touching a person after all.

"Um. Um..." Ashu sounded a little flustered at that.

"Kinda was a joke, kinda."

[not_in_zane]

"Kinda. Okay. Well then, maybe we should go out," Zane said, snickering a bit and deciding to have mercy on her.

Mutter, mumble and a huffing sound before some composure is gained.

"Your world or mine?"
