Just as he hit the check out line, though... everything went silent. He blinked, and rubbed at his ears, as if that'd help with anything.
Nothing. People looked at him and moved their mouths, but no sound came out.
He managed to pay for his few groceries and left, heading for home as quickly as possible, occasionally rubbing at his ears.]
