Mr. Kakashi, I have additional information about the backgrounds and abilities of some of these people, as well as history.

However, I am not sure whether it would do more harm than good to share it. And who would believe me.

I firmly believe that Itachi will take no direct action on his own, but I know he'll take orders without question, even if it's to harm those he used to consider his friends. However, he'll apply however much force he needs and nothing more. He by no means shouldn't be considered dangerous. We've all seen just how far he's willing to go to harm people.

... if you come up against Itachi, please avoid direct blows to his chest, if he even presents enough of a weakness to allow you that close.

If needed, I have information on a few of Itachi's forms of attack, though I know what he's shown me isn't anywhere near close to what all he's capable of.

As for the Inner City plan, I've already stationed myself as part of the team. I think it would be a good idea to have more of "us" inside, if only to keep down casualties and possibly figure out what they're up to. I admit I have my own reasons for going along, but the more of us spread through the ranks, the more we'll figure out just what everyone's really up to in there, if anything.

I would be interested in hearing it, however, though if you want to withhold it, from me or the others, that's up to you. I'd like to compare it with other information I've...gathered.

No, I agree with you. Itachi's not nearly as much of a threat as the other Akatsuki are. Various factors go into that. But he is still a threat because of his allegiance to that group, so we have to be careful around him and know about his skills.

I know some of them quite well--both from serving with him in ANBU and from first-hand experience. He specializes in genjutsu, or the art of illusion, and is highly proficient in hand-to-hand combat and ninja arts. But anything else you know about his skills, especially that may provide insight into his sensei's powers, would be useful.

And agreed. I'd like to keep an eye on Carmen anyway--she's particularly interested in a friend of mine, so I'd like to follow along. Regardless of Carmen's intentions, or those of the overall group, I have no doubt someone in that mob is up to something, and not simply looking for a ticket home or a chance to confront the scientists.

As for plans in the Inner City... I don't want to pass judgment on what they may or may not be up to. But if the secrets of how this world was formed pass into the wrong hands, I think they may use it to somehow figure out how to create more of and/or control the existing Animus, or worse, figure out how to pull in allies, or trap certain people here permanently while they go back and create havoc in their respective worlds. The possibilities are endless and terrifying. I just hope I'm wrong.

I wish so much that Itachi were on our side.

There is... one thing, that I have to tell you.

Since he's been gone I've looked over our old conversations a bit to clear my head and my memories, and that... he mentioned Madara then. And he said something else that I didn't connect at the time, but it disturbed me, going back over it again.

[Al flicks on the PCD, and Itachi's voice plays, soft and serious.]

"... the leader of the Senjuu at the time was a man who could control the bijuu--powerful demons of chakra and malice. But the man who led the Uchiha could control the most powerful of these demons, the nine-tailed demon fox, or the kyuubi. As a tangent, both Sasuke and I share this power with that man, but it comes with a price.

To continue.

The Senjuu and the Uchiha eventually formed an alliance, and founded the first ninja village, Konoha. Their example was followed and eventually the world stabilized with clear power distribution and borders--though war is always a part of human nature, at least the chaos was not so bad.

But there was a conflict between Uchiha Madara--the leader of the Uchiha at the time--and the Senjuu leader, Hashirama. Madara was paranoid and delusional, he wanted to seize power, and he opposed the alliance and the Senjuu leader becoming the Hokage--village leader of Konoha. However Hashirama did become Hokage, and Madara left, enraged and vengeful. He returned later, attacking the village and his own clan with the kyuubi--the Hokage faced him and killed him, or so everyone believed.

But he wasn't dead. He merely retreated, biding his time for his revenge. He formed the organization of Akatsuki in secret, among other things, waiting for his chance.

Sixteen years ago he set the kyuubi on Konoha a second time. Now, the first attack had left a rift between Senjuu and Uchiha, the Uchiha had been given control of the military police--but they still were not the main power within the village. The second attack left the rest of the village and especially the council paranoid that the Uchiha had been behind the kyuubi attack, and the Uchiha were segregated and isolated within the village after the massacre of the second attack..."

I swear I've heard the word "kyuubi" before, but I can't place it...

I hope you're wrong as well, Alphonse, but I fear that you're not.

[He falls silent during the explanation. When he speaks, his voice is very calm... It's a lot to take in, especially from Itachi's voice, and he doesn't make clear what he thinks of the information.]

...Kyuubi is the nine-tailed fox. The demon within Naruto.

All the more reason for us to watch very, very carefully.

[Alphonse does not curse often. However, when he does, it's generally surprising -- normally he is very careful to use polite language. However, hearing that, or rather, being reminded of it, shatters his calm.]

Fuck.

My thoughts exactly, Alphonse-kun. [Still in the cool, calm tone. Then he pauses a moment before he switched the filter.]

[Private Al //Unhackable]

What else did Itachi tell you?

[It takes a moment for Alphonse to gather himself.]

... would you please call me just Alphonse, or Al-kun instead, Mr. Kakashi...?

[Private to Kakashi//Unhackable]

[Al's voice is soft and distant.]

Lies, bedtime stories, advice, things I needed to hear, things I never wanted to hear... and sometimes more truth about myself, himself, and the world than I could handle.

[A soft sigh.]

... I think it's time to let you know what really happened the day of the massacre.

That is... if you want to.

Because I'll let him tell you, in his own words. If you like.

Alright, Alphonse.

[Softly, somewhat bitter.] That sounds like him.

[His voice doesn't sound quite as accusatory? as it usually does when compares Itachi's truth and the one he himself knows.]

What really happened, or what Itachi says happened?
......But yes. I'd like to hear it.

[Alphonse carefully sets the PCD down on the table, facing away from himself, so it won't record any of his reactions to what comes through. He flicks a button, and a recording begins, though it captures only the voices.]

This conversation happened on October first.

[He flicks the button, and the entirety of the thread from this post onward begins to play.]

((ooc: Mostly for stalker-Leify's benefit than because it actually belongs here, I present tldr of behind the scenes))

[As he listens, part of him really still wants to believe Itachi is as despicable and easily hated as Kakashi has always been lead to believe. Because in Konoha, there is a steadfast loyalty that persists, and treason and killing your own goes against that. It's irredeemable in that old-fashioned patriot frame of mind. And despite Obito's lessons to Kakashi, or perhaps because of him, he is devoted to the cause of the village, to the protection of it, to the people. To betray that oath to protect, for any reason...

Alphonse's reactions tug at his heartstrings, of course, because there's something in the youngest Elric that makes people feel for him, feel with him. What affects him more, despite what he wants to think, though, is Itachi. The cold demeanor strikes a chord with the cool genius in Kakashi. The wall, the masks between him and the rest of the world. That learned, ingrained detachment. And that unnameable emotion in his tone when he refers to Sasuke there. "...but I would do more than that to protect Sasuke."

There's too much in Itachi's tale that rings of...possible truth. He wants it to be a lie, but Kakashi's understood first hand how a man can be named a traitor a be a savior, how a village can turn its back on its heroes. How full of contradictions it all is, and yet he remains the faithful dog he is. And maybe because of that mentality, Kakashi's not sure he could refrain from holding that grudge. Maybe he could, but he's not sure, and if this is true--as he regrettably suspects it may be--he somewhat hates Itachi for that. For being that much more respectable, despite what he did.

In some ways, it's like he hated his father, even if it's nothing alike...mostly. That same, unsure contradiction is there, though. The question of just what was right, and on whom to place the blame and hate.

He clears his throat as the feed ends, having managed to remain silent behind the mask of what is only a voice post. He's not sure what to say and his voice betrays a little of that, mostly in the lack of good pacing.]

And it's not that we hate doors. We just...like windows more. It's...more romantic...hm?

[There's an awkward pause. He's still turning this over in his mind. Was this true and was he hating Itachi because it was convenient? Because it was easier to cling to the Village and to vilify a man called a traitor, than to oppose that alone? Or are these more lies? He takes a deep breath and then replies, sounding normal again.]

...Well, that's certainly food for thought.

[It actually takes a bit of time for Alphonse to respond. He knows that Kakashi isn't always up-front about his feelings, that he often jokes to deflect when he's uncomfortable. He can't quite gauge his reaction.]

Not easily swallowed, I know.

[He's managed to collect himself completely again.]

No, but then I don't imagine anything with Itachi will be easily swallowed.
