I turned 30 the other day and had a bit of a midlife crisis. I should have done so much by now (where's my PhD?), I hate my job, where am I going, yada, yada, yada...
So I've decided to train to become a primary school teacher, which is something I've wanted to do for a while, but couldn't really afford to do. But I've been inspired by a friend who is recently giving up her job and going back to uni for a BFA. My uni has a one-year intensive Graduate Diploma of Teaching for students that already have a degree and want to train and be registered as a teacher.
The only problem is the 7-week teaching placement each semester. I can't afford to be a fulltime student and I'm not elligible for a student allowance for another year (yep, students in New Zealand are PAID TO STUDY by the government!), so I'd have to keep my/a job. The first 2 weeks of each placement I could probably take off as annual leave, but would have to take unpaid leave for the rest, if my work agrees to it.
I guess I could temp. You can do the programme by distance learning, which isn't my first choice, but it's the cheaper option (no travel) and I can do the work at night and on weekends, so I could work.
Bah! Decisions are the worst.
