yes, get a macbook or macbook pro, if that price is an option. I have a thinkpad w/ the same hardware as the core duo macbook pros, and it's pretty amazing. Except the thinkpad is really not as good as the macbook pro. Seriously, won't need a new computer until at least the time of graduation if you get a macbook pro + warranty.
Oh totally. I'm running on a Macbook Pro (15.4") right now and I've had, like, NO problems with it... save for my memory kind of sucking, but that's just iTunes being a big, fat resource hog (Songbird is a great all-platform alternative to iTunes).
While the Pros are really nice, I wouldn't recommend it if you're NOT going to be doing a lot of heavy duty gaming or artworking. If you're just going to chill on the internet and make an icon here and there, I'd go with just the regular MacBooks (really, the little screens are adorable).
I guess my only gripe about the new Core Duo processors is that Adobe hasn't made new software formatting for that processor; instead, I'm using Photoshop CS1 formatted for the PowerPC G4 chips, and thus have to run Photoshop through an emulation software. It's kinda like when OSX first came out, and you had to boot up a lot of programs in Classic Mode because they weren't built for the new OS.
Yeah, that photoshop thing is pretty lame. I have a mini core duo and using photoshop on it under rosetta makes me an angry, angry person XD. Although it's still better than using photoshop on an ibook.
Yeah... and then when the new Photoshops come out, they're going to charge everyone an arm and a leg for it, as usual. I'm so glad I got my copy of Photoshop free from a teacher at my high school. X3
As for running Photoshop on an iBook, I think it's just running ANYTHING on an iBook with iTunes running in the background. Srsly. A friend of mine has an iBook and everything works just fine... when iTunes isn't on.
:D
