Dov Charney and Anti-atheist states

Feb 23, 2009 22:51

SO I was really planning on watching Heroes today and posting the summary like, right after. Only I had a sugar low and was really light headed so I ended up napping right through it. Oops.

Instead, I will post the things about Dov Charney I was planning to, and a few articles about anti-atheist states that I just read.

Want to spare yourself from reading millions of articles by radical feminists? Read on. For those who don't know, Dov Charney is the CEO of American Apparel. Now I dunno if you have, but many people have seen their ads of women wearing nothing more than whatever they're trying to sell. Maybe it's a jacket, barely covering their nipples. Maybe it's a pair of bright purple tights. Maybe even just a pair of underwear. (and of course lube instead of a top)

The article in The Onion mentioned how 14 models were being held in their LA compound in September of 07. They were "dazed, sallow, and undernourished" and "many of them had been given nothing more than a pair of tube socks or men's briefs to wear". The description of how the models were being held sounds more like what Prop 2 was trying to avoid. Since when to we treat women worse than animals? The models were 18-22 years but looked 12-14 (no surprise there). Of course AA brags their products are not made in sweatshops overseas. That's probably what lured these models in the first place. But as one of the models said, "Before I knew it, I was squatting on the floor in this humid room with a camera pointed at my crotch." Yeah, not somewhere I wanna work.

And that's not all. the CEO himself has been through six sexual harassment suits. He has admitted that he calls his models sluts, although claims it is an endearing term (what?). Then again, this is the same guy who has also had sex with a number of his coworkers, even in the presence of a reporter. Oh, also, he walks around wearing nothing but underwear. Now I dunno if you've seen any pictures of him, but ... that's not something I want to see.

Also, a few quotes of his I'd like to share with you:
“Women initiate most domestic violence, yet out of a thousand cases of domestic violence, maybe one is involving a man. And this has made a victim of culture out of women.”
Really? Because there are tons of statistics to prove you wrong. 1 in 4 women are raped or physically assaulted by current or former spouse or other form of dating partner. 1/3 of female murder victims are killed by an intimate. And you want to say that in a thousand domestic violence cases, 999 are women hurting women. Uh huh. And how has this made a "victim culture of women" (of should be among by the way)?

“By relentlessly pursuing efficiencies in management and production, we aim to make use of exploitative labor tactics not only unnecessary but actually counterproductive.”
Exploitation in sweat shops is a big no-no, but exploitation of 'boobies' and 'vajingos'? All for it!
He may not use exploitative labor tactics, but he sure uses exploitative advertising tactics.

PS: I was on their website like a week ago and was greeted with an interesting advertisement along the top of the page. The model was topless.

I have no words for this, except: you suck.
Can't think of anything else to say.
