Wonderful movie. I'll say more stuff bout it later cuz I gotta go, but this is something I gotta say now.
Ellen Page as Hayley Stark, main charrie of Hard Candy :
Nora Zehetner as Eden McCain, charrie on Heroes:
See the resemblance?
And both are good at persuading; Eden cuz of her power and Hayley ... well, she persuaded someone to kill himself. Without powers. Actually she used blackmail, but I don't wanna spoil anymore.
EDIT
Alright, so it starts with Hayley Stark chatting with a guy online. They plan to meet at a coffee shop.
Later at the shop, they meet up. The guy she had been talking to turns out to be a 32 year old photographer named Geoff.. They hit it off, and Geoff restrains himself, stating that he has to wait 4 years to be with her. However, Hayley asks to go over to his house so he can shoot pictures of him. He offers her a drink, but she declines, saying that you shouldn't drink what you didn't see mixed yourself. She then goes and makes them both screwdrivers. When they're getting ready to shoot, Geoff passes out.
When Geoff comes to, he's tied to a chair. The sweet innoccence is gone from Hayley's face, and now she's snooping through his house. She decides to try to get Geoff to confess to being a pedophile [after all, he has pictures of underage models hung around his house].
While searching the house, she finds a pile of letters written to Geoff from his ex-girlfriend Janelle, who he still has feelings for. In his rock garden she finds a safe, and manages to figure out the combination lock and open it. Inside are photos [pedophiliac in nature], including one of Donna Mauer, a girl who has recently been kidnapped and murdered. Geoff denies being involved in the girl's murder, and kicks Hayley to the floor before scooting to his room to get his gun. Hayley uses plastic wrap to asphyxiate Geoff into unconsciousness.
This time, Geoff wakes up tied to a table, with a bag of ice between his legs. Hayley tells Geoff that she plans to castrate him, and considers it a sort of public service [preventive maintainance]. Geoff tries to dissuade her through threats, negotiations, and sympathy, but to no avail. [I'll skip the detail here and get on with it. ;) ]
Hayley sets up a video camera, so Geoff can see what's going on. After the castration is complete, she leaves him there, telling him that she's going to go take a shower. Geoff struggles and frees himself, but when he checks out the damage, he realizes that all she really did was put an alligaor clip on instead of actually performing surgery. He checks the VCR to the TV where the castration was on and finds an instructional video from UCLA for castration. He starts to dial 911, but then gets another idea. He picks up the scalpel and goes to the bathroom. He throws open the shower curtain, ready to strike. However, there's no one there.
Hayley jumps behind him and zaps him with a taser. He falls into the shower and drops the scalpel. Geoff fights unconsciousness and turns off the water. She leaves the room and Geoff reaches for the scalpel.
Hayley returns to the surgery site to clean up the area. She puts on a pair of gloves and puts stuff away that she moved when she was searching the house earlier. She wipes any surface she has touched. Meanwhile, Geoff has been crawling down the hallway. She passes him, tasering him again. She calls and talks to a friend on the phone. She offers to treat them both to a movie later, saying she'll be done sooner than she thought. She tied Geoff to the bed. She calls someone else, pretending to be part of LAPD, asking the person on the other line to come over, who is apparently acquainted with Geoff.
Now Hayley has Geoof standing on a chair with a noose around his neck and his wrists tied. The doorbell rings and Hayley puts a rag deep in his mouth to muffle his screams and goes to get it. It's a woman with the Girl Scout cookied Geoff ordered. Hayley tells her that she is his niece and he has food poisoning before accepting the cookies and paying for them.
After returning to where Geoff is, she tells him he can either wait and get caught or end it all and she'll destroy all the evidence. Suddenly, he jumps and wraps his legs around her neck, pinning her to the countertop. Hayley runs off and Geoff gets the noose off, unties himself, and runs after her. He grabs a knife and runs around the house. When he gets back to the kitchen, he sees the rope is gone. With rage, he stabs one of the pictures on his wall over and over. He then realizes Hayley was right about everything. He walks outside and finds something of Hayley's by a ladder, leading to the roof. He picks it up and climbs up the ladder.
He sees Hayley there and threatens her with the knife. In turn, she threatens him with a gun. He lunges at her, but she scrambles away.
She tells Geoff that she called Janelle, who is headed here now. She claims that the deal from earlier is still open and shows that she tied the noose to the roof. Geoff says he can track her down, but Hayley asks how he knows anything she said about herself was truth. Janelle's car pulls up and Janelle runs around trying to get into the house, calling for Geoff. They hear a police siren coming closer. Hayley keeps trying to convince him to hang himself. Geoff finally confesses that his friend killed Donna Mauer, and he just watched. Hayley said Geoff's friend said Geoff did it before he killed himself. Geoff gets up and puts the noose around his neck, ready to jump off. Hayley says she will take care of it all and after he jumps, adds "...or not." She then gets down and walks home.
Is it a bad thing that I found this movie more intriguing and funny than creepy?
I am so tempted to make a character out of her. She is pure awesome. :D
Speaking of RPGs, I joined a Peter Pan one. I'm such a kid. Haven't made a character yet. Not sure if I wanna play Tiger Lily or make an OC. Thing about Tiger Lily is people are arguing everywhere that the Indians [Native Americans -.-] in Peter Pan are steryotypical and blah blah. They're caled Pickaninny for god's sake! And yeah I kinda agree, but still wish there'd have been more of em in the newest movie version, which is the version the RPG is based on.
Anyway, hey, haven't been on in a while. Happy Belated New Years to all! :D It doesn't feel like New Years. I blame global warming. :/
Other movies I've seen recently include The Prestige [which was very good, but the sudden switch from logical to magical was weird], Driving Lessons [very funny and interesting camerawork], and December Boys [good movie, touching and sad, but the plot didn't quite do it for me. It needed more. Like the narrator and main character were two different people, so it was weird.]
Well, school starts tomorrow. Oof.
