A State of Mind - A rare look into North Korea, posed as a documentary following the lives of their young gymnasts. It's crazy.
7th Street - Basically the story of New York's East Village. Told from the perspective of a man who's seen and lived through it all. It only gets better when you find out where you've seen him before (and you have).
Bus 174 - A bus hi-jacking in Rio de Janeiro that received massive news coverage across the nation. Live news footage and interviews retell the events of the day, and give a glimpse into the hi-jacker's childhood and unfortunate circumstances.
Declining By Degrees - An honest look at our higher education system, and its ability to hand out degrees to students that do little to no work (among other things).
Grizzly Man - This one kind of "hit it big", but it's right on the disturbing mark. In case you missed it, our main character prefers to spend his time in the company of bears. Then his head gets chomped on.
Spellbound - This one kind of hit it big too. It follows a handful of spelling-bee hopefuls as they prepare for the big day. I kind of liked some of the kids, but there is this one crazy kid in particular that makes the whole film worthwhile.
The Devil’s Miner - Follows a twelve-year old boy, who is forced to work in a coal mine to support his mother and family. Dangerous, creepy, sad, and in Bolivia!
Promises - The Israeli/Palestinian conflict through the eyes of the children. In the end, they are able to spend the day together. Made by Justine Shapiro, one of the hosts of Globetrekker (if that means anything to you).
