what's with all this goddamn soft news coverage of the hurricane? i can't believe some of You People sit around and watch this shit all day. there's no new information, just one cheesy-ass human interest story after another, and yet people like my mom and undoubtedly thousands more across the country will sit down and watch this garbage for hours

i'm not personally accusing whoever reads this of doing such. 'You All' [caps] was meant as a vague outside reference to whoever it is that this sort of thing applies to. as i mentioned, the news networks are all doing this, so clearly for me to think it's absurd puts me in the minority, since I really can't argue with ratings as far as determining what is popular.

as for whoever actually reads this, i generally hold higher opinions of people i know via LJ or internets or real life in general, and figure you guys are largely not in the same demographic as people who actually do sit around and watch crappy TV all day. so i don't expect you to defend yourselves to me -- i figure i'm generally preaching to the choir on here already. (further demonstrated by your remarks on not owning a TV. see? togetherness.)

plus, even if i went around being this ascerbic in person, the sort of people who would be personally offended / part of the party in question are generally not friend material in the first place, so it's all cool.
and i'm the same way with music -- the lyrics are the clincher. i find that ambient-y music is the best for reading, if anything. admittedly, i get 95% of my reading done on the job, where i can't have music on anyways because i have to have my ears ready to detect incoming bosses.

i should really get myself a fishtank. preferably one with an audibly droning filter. that shit would totally put me to sleep in two seconds at night.
