People we need to enliven this community! Such a great topic and so little activity!
How's this? I'll post one of my favorite Turkish inventions, Turkish breakfast!
You begin with a pot of properly brewed tea, served in glasses with small spoons and sugar cubes. A loaf of bread (ekmek), freshly delivered (or purchased) and sliced. A hunk of excellent sheep's milk cheese (beyaz peynir), an assortment of jams, especially sour cherry (visne) and rose (gul) preserves. Also, olives and a dish of pistachios. Some sliced tomatoes and maybe some seasonal fruit like peaches. One or two kinds of sausage, often served cold and sliced. If you want something really divine, make mirtoga:
Melt a stick of butter (1/2 c./8 tablespoons) in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in 1/4 c. flour. Stir until it browns slightly but don't let it burn! Pour in 2 lightly beaten eggs and stir until set. Serve as is or drizzled with honey. Delicious!
I always make sure to have several bits of bread topped with beyaz peynir and a dollop of sour cherry preserves. Perfect.
