Busy
Ugh...I've been so busy, mostly with the proposal for generals. I've been trying to get up at 4 or 5 every morning so that I can have a few hours of uninterrupted time to work. It's working fairly well, but I can't always make myself get out of bed after just 6 hours of sleep. Plus, I end up being REALLY tired towards the end of the day...
You know, it's scary--I feel so much better now that Mom isn't contacting me anymore. It's so much less stress, and I have more time to myself because I don't have to spend a day or two every week calling people to figure out what the hell happened THIS time. I know it sounds awful, but honestly I'm wondering if I won't just tell her not to contact me at all unless she needs something. I mean, talking with the counselor here at Princeton got me thinking. She asked me what sort of relationship I -wanted- to have with my mother. And I admitted that, if my mother were just another person with the same personality only not related to me, I probably wouldn't care for her much, and we definitely wouldn't be friends. So, in the end, what's the point of pretending that we love each other just because we share some genes? That probably sounds really cynical, but honestly--why try to force yourself to be best friends with someone?
...You know, I really wasn't planning to write about my mother at all. Oh well. In other news, getting housing for next year turned out to be relatively painless--a couple of other second-year grad students in my department have a roommate who wants to move out so she can live with her boyfriend. So, I'll be moving in with them, and since the roommate wants to move ASAP, I can move prior to heading out for IL in May.
Swing Night last night was FUN. For the first time in the three sessions we've had, there were more guys than girls, AND most of the guys were good dancers. I think the ballroom dance club sent out an e-mail or something. Anyway, I had a great time.
Geeze, it's almost 7 and I haven't gotten any work done...Wish I wrote proposals and things as fast as I wrote stuff like this. Anyhow, going to buckle down now.
