I found out this past Monday that dad will indeed have to have his knee replaced. Major surgery. He will have it done on February 12th. After the 3 days in the hospital he will be off his feet for several weeks. Since my dad is self employed and works alone, after he has healed up some, i will need to take a few half days off for awhile to take him to meet with his customers. When i asked for the 12th and 13th off (for his surgery) i also let my manager know that a few weeks later i will need to take a few half days off to drive my dad around. Well my manager was very willing and understanding about the 2 days off for my dads surgery, then he got kinda cold, and said he would have to talk to HR about IF i would be able to help my dad run his business. IF... IF... Like i am going to just leave my dad out in the cold. I just dont understand what the hell it matters what i do on my time off. I have enough vacation time to do so. Plus my dad does not work in the mortgage industry, so its not a conflict of interest. I dont think it will be a problem, but i didnt like the way i was approached with the IF hr will let me help my dad who has been here for me for 30 years... there is not question i will do whatever i need to for that man. I love my dad...
