Katana's physicality is similar to his weapon of choice. He stands taller than the other Turks, bar perhaps Rude. He is slender but with a distinct amount of lean muscle tone which is a necessity in his line of work. Of a wandering type, Katana's body reflects that ranger instinct, but also the smooth, poised posture belies a sense of nobility and gives him an appearance of serious intelligence. Half-Wutaian, he has a fine structure to his facial features, with a combination of mostly brushed back mid-length black hair and blue-grey eyes. Most strikingly he wears light, rectangular-framed glasses and has a scar that extends down his face in a zig zag from the bottom of the left frame.
Katana outwardly epitomises much of what people associate with a Katana-wielding swordsman. He is commanding of presence, eminently polite, apparently aloof and cold.
Whilst he does hold those traits, some know of or vaguely suspect that there is an underlying current to Katana. He actually is a rather passionate and intense individual with a capacity to be fiercesome. However due to the fact he is also highly protective about himself and his past means that such things are usually unseen, remaining secret and controlled utterly by his equally strong self-discipline.
Surprisingly quick to temper, the totality of the anger he can feel has, luckily, almost never been witnessed. Usually all that can be seen is a flash of glasses and a razor sharp word or two, before Katana slips back into that outward calm as if nothing had ever happened. In addition he has got quite the sense of humour, it just goes over most people's heads - a fact that amuses him even more, for he rather enjoys feelings of intellectual superiority.
Katana can still be quite the charmer, and can be seen quite often smiling or chattering away to colleagues in a commonplace expression of congeniality. In fact, in relation to his fellow Turks he has built up something of a flirtatious reputation and is more often than not the joker in a situation. His smile is a weapon he wields almost as effectively as his blade.
He can give orders competently, and will also follow orders very well, being very dedicated and disciplined to his work. His superiors quite often send him out on missions abroad, mostly alone, and this way of working suits the swordsman.
Last but not least it is noted that Katana has an eye for beauty settled behind those rectangular frames. His appreciation can range from silent contemplations, captivated discourse and debate, occasional fantasising, or dogged persual - dependent on whether the source of beauty is in nature, a work of art or another human, in addition to how well it stands up against his lofty ideals.
Highly skilled with his Katana (Shimanagashi) he wields his blade as a Turk - stealthily and intelligently - and with less strength than the other Shinra Katana-wielder, General Sephiroth. He has however been shown to have quite the destructive potential with the blade if enraged sufficiently. He has also practiced martial arts from being a boy (being raised by a Wutaian father in Gongaga), and, as a Turk is in possession of, and can use, a firearm.
He is competent, focussed and professional in his work, and does not shy away from sometimes complex missions, particularly if they allow him to work alone, or with those he trusts. In addition he can be remarkably loyal and protective of certain individuals. He remains willing to sacrifice so much of himself for the friend he knew as a boy and young man.
Katana's true temper is a definite weakness, as is his enduring loyalty to his friend, which colours much of his actions, sometimes detrimentally. His inherent emotionality conflicts with the demands of his persona/work and Katana has a persistent struggle pitched within himself to keep that control.
Whilst secrecy is much vaunted in his line of work, Katana is so secretive as to be weakness. Coupled with his arrogance, Katana can often fall victim to the thought process that he is invulnerable and he will not rely on others easily, if at all.
He cannot work well when restricted, and can become quite harsh in his own assessments. How much others may see of his displeasure depends on the circumstance and how much he is being limited.
