Musings on the images we find attractive. No, not physical attraction in ourselves or others. Not even possessions like vehicles, houses, neighborhoods or, in recreational groups we frequent, the image or peer group we seek to associate with.
How very un-PC of me, but I’m speaking of the images that that inspire the feelings the media is endlessly seeking to replicate but always falls short of….Images that stir our souls on a basic, almost primal level. I’m not turning tree hugger or tree speaking mysticist on you. I’m just speaking of the more elemental side of things that cost nothing but mean everything to each of us.
For me, I’ll never forget seeing crows in flight on a cold winter day or my first raven (big guess!), or my first early morning misty lake or the tree covered Smokey Mountains in the Eastern United States at sunset. I hope to never forget the beach at sunset on the barrier islands south of Charleston Harbor as a kid and young adult , or the sound of my first serious girlfriend’s murmur in her sleep. I hope to never forget the images of my Dad and brothers and I around a campfire on a cold night, shoes smoking from the fire rings heat, the only campers in the park all weekend. I hope to never forget the way the ocean sparkles like a diamond as you skip across it on a tilting catamaran or the sight of the dolphins keeping pace below. I'll never forget the site of the American flag at games as everyone sang the national anthem, hats in hand.
I hope to never forget the first picture of My Lady I ever saw or the electric pulse that shot through me at that moment, and still does at the oddest, most unexpected moments.
Mostly, I hope that when I finally pass beyond my mortal coil, eternity does stretch forever and is filled with these images and more. In 30 or so years I’ll be able to tell you all in some cheesy séance!
Those are the images I find attractive….The rest is just stuff I temporarily have possession of or make payments on.
