So I was watching the music video today for
R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" for random reasons. It's been a while since I've seen it. But I distinctly remember the hot shirtless guy in it, a flash back from my highschool years, once I hit the
part of the video that had him. Actually, when you watch the video, he appears in a number of places.
1:36 2:30 2:32 3:55 4:02 4:24(from left: ???, Lakshmi, Angel**, Saint Sebastian, Parvati)
** Angel from story written by Columbian writer Gabriel García Márquez, "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings"
But who the heck is this guy supposed to be? Everyone else EXCEPT HIM in that last screen shot is named in various articles easily findable on the internet. Mostly the short story (angels) and Saint Sebastian are mentioned, a few articles mention the "hindu goddesses"and only one or two name Lakshmi or Parvati or both by name.
This guy though? No one names him despite the fact that he appears multiple times (more than the others!) and at least once lip syncing the lyrics. Also, he's hot and I want to know the name of the actor who portrayed him.
So anyway, after googling for far too long and searching on various obscure things I saw in the video, I have come to the conclusion that he is the
Rama incarnation of Vishnu, a god in the Hindu religion. Rama (Vishnu avatar) is married to Sita (Lakshmi avatar), which they appear together in this video a lot. Notice Rama is just above Lakshmi in the final shot, also there are shots with him just before a shot of Lakshmi. Also, Rama is the avatar of Vishnu that "is the Perfect Man or Lord of Self-Control or Lord of Virtue" which really jives with the theme of the song, the (Southern US) phrase, "Losing My Religion", meaning basically to lose control of your temper.
Even figuring out who the character he's playing is, I still can find zero information on the actor. Nothing comes up at all. I mean obviously he's going to be a lot older now, but still. Fine piece of man-meat, he was in this video.
