I am rapidly approaching hour 100 with no power. I know power is being restored. How can I say this? For starters, I now have a consistent 4g signal for the first time since Thursday evening. Also, lots of my friends haved posted/tweeted/texted to brag about it,
Just about everything in the fridge and freezer was lost. The deep freeze had perfectly thawed everything, so I cooked it all up today on the grill. Let's see there was: 14 chicken breasts, 3 pounds of ground beef, 2 pounds of ground turkey, 2 pork tenderloins, a pound of Italian sausage, and a pound of stew meat. I stil didn't get to 2 pounds of ground turkey and a pound of ground beef. Some people came over to help eat the feast. The rest will feed everyone at work tomorrow.
Brandy and Zoe escaped to Florida to visit a friend. Brandy was fine, but we both thought Zoe was getting a little ruffled by the whole experence. An adult that hasn't showed in 3 days is a bit worn. A 13 month old that hasn't bathed in 3 days is a downright wreck.
Latest word is that, as of about an hour ago, Madison county was added to the list of counties eligible for federal (FEMA) disaster assistance. Not that i really need it, but I did lose my entire back store of food, and had to spend about $100 in out of the ordinary stuff. I wonder if you can apply and turn down some if they offer too much?
Overall, this experience has really shed some light on what is important. Trust me, if you ever want to see what's really important in your life, go flip your main breaker. Day one is annoying. Day 2 is trying. However, somewhere around day 3, you really figure out what's important, and what is really just fluff.
Well, i actually need to go into work tomorrow, so i will stop here. For those keeping score, I'm hitting post about 15 minutes shy of the 100 hour mark.
