MOD'S CHOICE [1 point]:

vapor

[The use of the background of the smaller cap as a type of texture for the larger one is an inspired and brave choice; one that, I think, worked in this icon's favor. It is stunning to look at!]

TABLE KEY:
+++ = 1st Place Vote
++ = 2nd Place Vote
+ = 3rd Place Vote | Beginning of a new comment.

Note: Votes are not weighted in this round. Meaning a 1st, 2nd or 3rd vote will only give you 1 point when tallying the votes. Except in the case of a SINGLE tie - then the icon with the most 1st place votes will be given first. In the case of multiple ties, ties will stand unless there are extenuating circumstances.

ICON VOTES

margerydaw_s2POSITIVE VOTES
+++ Flawless blending and beautiful coloring!
+++ The blending is excellent in that the both the caps merge together seamlessly. The colouring and lighting is beautiful as well!
+++ Excellent blending and beautiful coloring.
+++ This icon has top-notch contrast and coloring, I love the vibrancy and how the magenta hair pops against all the blue. The placement of the blended images is very balanced and just overall great.
++ The blending is flawless and the colors are really subtle yet eye-catching.

BEST INTERPRETATION
+ No reason provided.

CONSTRUCTIVE VOTES
+ This icon is incredibly lovely; however, the two figures do blend together a fair bit, and that, in turn, makes the smaller figure difficult to pin point. Perhaps placing a silhouette behind the smaller figure would have allowed for it to stand out that much more?

ADDITIONAL VOTES
None.

partitioningPOSITIVE VOTES
+++ The composition is well done and the balance of light and dark is very nice and not overpowering.
++ The concept behind this icon is really great! And I love that the main cap has a lack of colour, which makes the second cap stand out because it is coloured.
+ Really good use of black and white! Usually contrast is an issue with these, but yours is perfect in that aspect. There is some oversharpening in the bigger image, but it's a very nice icon still!

BEST INTERPRETATION
None.

CONSTRUCTIVE VOTES
+ I really like the blending and the b&w colouring of the icon, however I do feel that the background cap is overbright and washed out. It makes the subject's face look very pixelly.
+ I love the idea here, but the icon looks a little sharp and grainy to me. It could be that the caps you used were LQ. The blending was done very well, though!
+ The images here are a bit too blended together so the smaller one gets a bit lost - making the blacks of her shirt a little brighter/darker than the hair of the larger image would help the smaller one stand out. Otherwise the blending is really good, the sizes and placements are in great harmony, and the bw coloring looks great.

ADDITIONAL VOTES
None.

vaporPOSITIVE VOTES
+ I love the choice of caps, it makes the composition of the icon very interesting and the icon on the whole looks dramatic! I also love how the colouring is neither pale nor vibrant but just right. :)

BEST INTERPRETATION
None.

CONSTRUCTIVE VOTES
+ I think this is very nearly a gorgeous icon. The blending is very well done and I love how the natural background of the smaller image gives the larger one a sort of textured look. What kept me from voting for this icon is the sharpness - in the smaller icon there are quite a lot of sharp, pixellated edges visible, so I'd suggest lowering the opacity of the sharpening layer. Still, fantastic work with the composition!
+ I like the composition of this but I think it would be better with less of the background in the wide shot visible. The crowd in the background is unflattering to the closely cropped face it's blended into.
+ The blending is nice and the crowd adds an interesting texture to the silhouette; the tones of the icon feel off, however. It could possibly use some more contrast and vibrance.
+ I think this one would have worked much better if in the smaller picture you cut only Katniss out. The heads of the crowd behind her are very sharp and they are making her skin in the bigger image look all cracked.

ADDITIONAL VOTES
None.

john_scorpyPOSITIVE VOTES
++ Fantastically executed and very creative composition.
++ Interesting composition and also a really fitting icon for the context of the fandom.
++ The pastel colors are very nice and the text is a good finishing touch, too! I like that it is small, so it doesn't distract from the rest of the icon, while still being readable so you don't have to squint to read it.
++ This composition is beautiful. I think the lack of contrast makes it look amazing. I would have thought to add contrast because that's part of my normal icon-making process, but this looks so pretty!

BEST INTERPRETATION

fangssPOSITIVE VOTES
+ Excellent work with the background image, the coloring (so vibrant!), lighting and texture use look perfect to me. I like how the bold reds of the smaller image make it stand out. The edges of the small image look quite sharp and jagged to me so I'd suggest blurring/smudging them a bit, but the icon has so many great qualities to it that they outweigh this flaw.
+ Really interesting texture use and color in this icon.
+ I think the bright colors are so striking and lovely. With that said, the Sawyer in the foreground looks a little sharp around the edges.

BEST INTERPRETATION
None.

CONSTRUCTIVE VOTES
+ The blending is particular creative and well done, but the various textures/colorings are a little bit distracting in this case; something to tone them down and/or make the actual figures stand out a bit more would have been beneficial to clarity.
+ The colors here are simply fantastic! I'd just be careful with sharpening, because the edges on the small picture are jagged.
+ I love the background main cap with its colours and crop but for me the issue is the smaller cap. I like the way it is outlined in red but the stray pixels at the bottom left are veyr jarring and make the bottom portion look burnt.

ADDITIONAL VOTES
None.

applepips16POSITIVE VOTES
+++ I love the way you did the blend differently than most makers and sharpening is really well done.
+++ I love the monotone coloring and text use.
++ Beautiful sepia coloring and lovely subtle lighting. The text works really well and ties the two images together wonderfully. I really like the text arrangement itself too, especially the font choices, placement and rotation.
+ Very creative take on the theme, both technically and interpretively.

BEST INTERPRETATION
+ No reason provided.

CONSTRUCTIVE VOTES
+ The concept is nice, but the text is hard to read over the white glare within the center. Perhaps adding some more subtle shadows in the center would make the text more visible.

ADDITIONAL VOTES
None.

consumedlyPOSITIVE VOTES
+ It is a very creative icon with a good interpretation of the theme. The difference between color and black and white is fantastic.

BEST INTERPRETATION
+ This is an excellent concept, which was well thought out and well executed.
+ The composition/concept here is extremely creative, a very out of the box take on blending!
+ No reason provided.
+ No reason provided.

CONSTRUCTIVE VOTES
+ I think the composition here is beautiful, but I just cannot tell what the subject is. The b&w background looks like the closeup of someone's face, and the colored center looks like another cap, but I just don't know what's going on here. I would suggest less extreme cropping when you try a composition like this.
+ The black and white and color is interesting but I just can't make out what is going on in either image.

ADDITIONAL VOTES
+ I couldn't really understand what was going on in this icon, the images are not very clear.
