Being in a band is hard.

We've spent the last week out on the road, with mixed results. I don't think any of us expected much from these shows, but there were a couple that were just plain disappointing. Kind of sucks the life out of you. Generally I'm staying pretty positive, and I think everybody else is too, but it isn't easy. After a really dismal show last night we find our brakes have gone out. We get the van to Nashville and stay the night, hoping to find a repair shop in the morning to take it in so we can get to the show in Birmingham tonight, but we chose wrong. Sears had the van all afternoon and didn't even look at it, even though they said they could get to it in an hour. So we took it to Firestone and they said they could have fixed it today but now all the parts stores were closed, so they can fix it first thing tomorrow.

So show canceled. If that's not bad enough, we were all supposed to go to work tomorrow. My job is flexible, and so are Michael's and Zach's, but Dan's been desperately calling rental car places to see if he can get a one-way to Atlanta. His boss specifically had said he could take the week off as long as he was back on Monday to meet with the owner of the company for some reason. All the rental car places are booked up, so he's looking at possibly losing his job.

I think our record is good. Great, even. I think we could make a living playing music. But geez, not like the way things are going now. How do we keep going when we can't keep our jobs and our van keeps breaking down? It's just extremely disheartening. At times like this, I really don't know what to do anymore.

I know that's negative. I'll probably feel better later. We're supposed to get our record mastered tomorrow, and now that's probably going to have to be rescheduled. One thing after the other.
