that opening scene is :o all of it really! i remember one year in highschool i rented it almost every month because i couldn't find anywhere to purchase it. oh those days before amazon and youtube.
i downloaded it a while ago and i always make it up to the first scene with the monks dancing and chanting before i fall asleep. some people put music on to fall asleep-- i put on baraka!
i wish the font from the credits would transfer from the film to my handshello__________February 2 2009, 03:58:43 UTC
i love loves of a blonde! so tender this film makes me want to learn how to speak czech. and the song from the opening titles.
i love the part in which the boy compares the girl (i forget the names... they're probably something cool like "slavoj", even though that is actually a yugoslavian name)to a picasso painting. so cute! i think i've used this line on my boyfriend before... he's angular; me, not so much

haha, ME TOO! all i know is how to say "why" (she says why so much!) "thank you" and of course ahoy. it's such a good language though, when i was there i kept harassing the tour guide with questions on how to properly say things.
the best movie, the best the best! that scene when she meets his parents is perfection and the old man that brings the army to town is so adorable.

one of the words she uses a lot sounds like she's saying "no", but it actually means "yes" or maybe it means why? i always remembered that one.
i would DIE to go to czech republic... eastern europe in general. it seems like such a remote, shitty area full of farms and babushkas but so much interesting art comes out of there... walerian borowczyk, jan svankmajer, and marina abramovic all come to mind. and i love slavic languages. they all seem so difficult to learn but they all sound really cool.
i like the girls' reactions when the army comes into town. and the table of homely girls at the dance. and the ring rolling around the dancefloor. ok... so basically i love the whole thing
