i would like to review some basic tenets of christianity:
so, there is a god that lives in heaven. there is a devil that lives in hell. we don't know exactly where these places are, but we do know that when we die we are judged by god and we either go to heaven or hell for eternity. it's that simple.
so god, one day, decides to make the world, and he does this in 8 days (this happened about 6000 years ago - and yes, evolution is false). after he makes the world and some time has passed in which god smites people and performs all kinds of violent actions, he decides to send his son to earth so that every one can be saved from original sin, sin committed by two people who somehow parented the entire human race, although that's just biologically impossible.
so god picks mary, a 14 year old virgin roaming around the middle east. he points his finger through a cloud and impregnates her in a divine action. a god, in the sky, points down to earth and impregnates a mortal with god's son (sounds like a greek myth to me).
the son's life, jesus is his name, is pre-determined. he will start to preach the true message of god and then will be brutally killed and suffer more than any human being on the earth (as mel gibson so accurately portrayed).
so then jesus dies on the cross and the earth goes black. he is then buried and then his body floats up out of the tomb into heaven - the actual corporeal body floats up into heaven. hence, the resurection and easter sunday.
those who worship jesus and recieve the true message of the lord can be saved from original sin committed by two people about 6000 years ago. if we aren't saved, we will burn in hell.
it's that simple.
and this myth is the basis of one of the world's largest religions. hundreds of millions of people believe this. what does this tell you about the world you live in?
