don't talk to me

Mun Information:

Mun Name: Vee
Personal Journal: no thanks
Email: burnabridge@gmail.com
AIM: on winds of thor

Character Information:

Character's Name: Neku Sakuraba
Character's Canon: The World Ends With You
Appearance: Neku is a short wiry kid with messy light brown (somewhere between brown/blonde/orange, you know how video game characters are) hair, sharp features and too big blue eyes. His features have a somewhat feline quality to them, not that anyone can tell with the way he’s always hiding his face inside the high collar of his jacket. He wears the jacket everywhere, has one without sleeves for when it’s hot. The other accessories that are permanent to him are his mp3 player and headphones. The symbiont and the headphones battle for attention, but until She can play his music for him, she’s just going to have to get over it. She sometimes destroys them when she’s having a fit, but Neku just replaces them. Neku is really so skinny because his eating habits suck, he’s a really obnoxiously picky eater.

Symbiont in his hair is the only real difference. You thought his haircut was messy before, now it really has a life of its own.

Age/Grade: 15/9th
Affiliation: Yellow Knife
Character's Personality: Neku is a misanthrope. Once upon a time that term held some unfortunate affiliation to sociopaths, but in truth that's only in extreme cases. Neku is more than just antisocial, he has no real desire to be part of society. He dislikes and distrusts others and finds the consensus reality to be so ignorant and shallow that the mere idea of conforming to it comes across as pure stupidity. This condition is exacerbated somewhat by signs of low self-esteem, often keeping his opinions to himself because he feels like his feelings don't matter or that no one else will understand him. The latter of which is, unfortunately, probably true. Not only is Neku smarter than the average bear, he also has a very complicated inner world and an imaginative sense of everything around him. He loves art and music, he loves to create and explore. He finds more traditional academics painfully monotonous because of their rigid and limited expansions.

Neku is not out to please anyone but himself. He can be cruelly inconsiderate when fending off anyone who tries to chain him down with their obligations and expectations. Thus, he really has no friends. His own principles matter more than anything else, and if you challenge or offend him (he never backs down from a challenge) then you had best be prepared for his violent reaction. He will not regret ripping you apart mentally or physically.

Neku likes to think he's mature for his age, but in a lot of ways he's very much a child. Despite his stony exterior, his feelings can really be hurt very easily. So even if you see him start to open up, if you aren't very delicate with him, he'll bruise for seemingly no reason and snap shut again.

His Yellow Knife symbiont's effect on him is very similar to the mind reading he acquires in canon, and he will turn what he learns against you if he's angry enough. Though his misanthropy and lack of true understanding of people stops him from becoming manipulative for his own gain. His own principles continue to dictate he do things for himself anyway, a source of contention between the symbiont and himself.

Canon History: twewy-wiki
AlienParty Universe History: Neku grew up in what he considers to be a normal home. Two parents, other children nearby, no abuse, no trauma. He just... grew distant. School was never a challenge for him and to get through the long boring hours trapped in class, his imagination became one of his favorite things. He began cultivating his inner garden, played make believe and everything like all the other children. He had friends as a kid, but what he was interested in and what they were interested in was so disparate that by the fourth grade, there were only a few he still bothered to talk to. By the seventh grade, he'd given up completely, holding the behavior of not just his peers but also adults in complete contempt.

In the eight grade, his mother died. His father remarried quickly 'for his sake' but Neku has no real relationship with his parents. There was no connection with his stepmother whatsoever and she was too shy to approach him. His father saw that he's smart and capable. They were proud of his good grades and that he didn't get into trouble (this does not mean he doesn't make trouble, just that doesn't get caught), so they seemed to assume that meant he didn't need their guidance. He would agree with that and doesn't seek them out for anything.

He's volunteered for the alien parties hoping it will be more interesting than class. He doesn't seem to realize that means he'll have to learn to work together with other people. He was easy prey for the Yellow Knife. He's also been struggling to deal with his symbiont, the stupid little thing has its own opinions and needs and Neku just doesn't care to listen to it. The only thing she and he bond over is experimenting with the sonic blasts.

She is: Vain, talkative, wishes he would stop being an asshole and name her. Threatens to kill his fish if he doesn't pay attention to her. Bites his ears sometimes, which he does not appreciate.

First Person Writing Sample:
She’s complaining during class again. It gets on my nerves. The way she sits over my ears means no one else can hear it too, that sharp scratchy little voice telling me that she’s hungry, that she wants me to go to lunch today and buy her some french fries. It’s not like I’m that dedicated to listening to the lesson, but it’s better than her complaining. I hate the lunch room too, it's full to the brim with stupid social politics, noisy emotions that She is only too happy to broadcast for me, and loud voices that like to think they’re important.

They’re not important. They're the ones who cower in the classrooms while the parties take care of the aliens. Starship Troopers was actually about social responsibility, about earning the right to matter, not about killing giant bugs. I doubt any of them would pick up on that though.

French fries, she repeats stridently and I wince. I want to tell her to shut up, but grit my teeth and wait. I reach up to pinch her though, she complains and moment longer before falling into sulky silence, whispering one more, French fries.

Third Person Writing Sample:
Because the other students found it so distasteful, Neku actually spent a lot of his time near the alien containment shed. He actually spent a lot of time skipping classes, would claim one alien emergency or another if any of the teachers called him on it. However, he turned in his homework with perfect regularity and never scored less than 90% on a test, so there was no real need to bother.

It didn’t smell that great by the shed, but the grass was soft and he was left alone. There was plenty of shade if it was hot and he had his choice of reading or drawing or watching the gym classes on the track. Sometimes he even napped, but that was usually inviting Her to get up to some kind of mischief.

Change the song to ‘Yellow Spider’, she complained into his ear brightly, nudging his headphones aside. Neku pushed the foam back in to place and changed the song without arguing with her, he wasn’t in the mood. At least she’d picked a song he liked, for the most part.

He was settling in comfortably, until someone else decided this would be an excellent spot to skip class too. Neku knew they were coming from Her quiet broadcast of his emotions, but the cigarette smoke gave it away too. Neku wrinkled his nose distastefully. Damn smokers, he glowered, but the other kid was unmoved, even smiled at him and Neku’s expression was just flat.

You’re confusing him, She piped.

“Shut up,” he grumbled, getting to his feet and brushing past the other boy without so much as a glance.
