Secret
It was past 12 am, and the wind was blowing lightly in front of Narumi Detective Agency's building. Hidari Shoutarou shuddered a bit by the chill he felt going through his neck, and decided to quickly go inside. He'd done yet another one of what he liked to call "secret investigations" (while what he did was only tailing a novelist for two days -- her editor was afraid she'd run away from the deadline).
Walking by the billiard room, he noticed some rose petals laying on the floor, trailing up to the front door of their office. A confused expression surfaced to Shoutarou's face, but it vanished as soon as he realized something. That Phillip -- what could he have done now?
He opened the door slowly, only to find a pitch black room. Phillip must've forgot to turn on the lights, again. His hands groped the wall to find the switch. A-ha, there it was. He shut his eyes for a few moments and opened them slowly to adapt to the bright light, and then he looked around. Phillip was nowhere in the room -- not on the sofa or on the bed. He should be at the back room, Shoutarou thought as he pushed the not-so-secret door slowly.
And there the boy was, sleeping soundly in the middle of a sea of roses. On his right, laying a brown-covered book titled "Roses." Go figure, Shoutarou thought. The boy must've fallen asleep while doing one of his researches. Again.
The detective took a hanging blanket behind the door. Cautiously, he walked toward the sleeping boy, careful not to step on any of the roses.
"Sleeping on the floor again, you'll catch a cold you know," Shoutarou said quietly to Phillip. He bent down to squat, then placed the blanket on Phillip and adjusted it to make sure all parts of his body were covered.
"Ngg..." Phillip furrowed his eyebrows and moved slightly, causing Shoutarou to froze, afraid that he had waken the boy up. He sighed in relief when the younger boy didn't make any more motion afterward.
He gazed upon Phillip's face. He had wanted to touch it for some time now, just to know if the skin was as soft as it looked like.
And it was.
Shoutarou was startled by the sudden move of his hand. He didn't remember ordering his left hand to touch Phillip's cheek. But it really felt soft... and nice. A feeling that surprised him himself.
His fingers trailed from the cheek to to the chin, softly. His hand then moved to the back of Phillip's head, and gently he rubbed his hair.
There was a faint moonlight shining down the room, shimmering Phillip's face. He looked... beautiful. Not that Shoutarou had never thought of that before, but this time, it was... different. The capped boy stared at the face, not emitting even one blink.
It was when he moved and bent forward slowly, placing his lips on the sleeping beauty's forehead.
---
Phillip furrowed his eyebrows, then slowly opened his eyes. He expected to be cold, since he knew he fell asleep on the floor, but he found that he felt rather warm. He noticed a green blanket was covering him from neck down to the toes. Weird, since he didn't feel like wearing it before he fell asleep, and he was sure he didn't have one of those walking-in-the-sleep illness.
He then realized that he wasn't holding his book, though he was sure he had it shortly before he slept. Must've let go of it in the middle of the sleep, he thought. He yawned as he sat up and looked at the clock. 2 am. No wonder he felt like sleeping again.
He was stretching his body and yawning once again when he realized that someone was sleeping next to him. He raised an eyebrow when he saw Shoutarou was beside him, sleeping while inhaling and exhaling lightly. Oh. That explained the blanket.
Phillip reached out to touch Shoutarou's hand. It felt cold. Shoutarou was always like that, Phillip thought. He always put everybody above him. And that was why Phillip was the only one wearing the blanket, while Shoutarou knew it would be freezing cold there at night. Phillip sighed as he adjusted the blanket, sharing it with the older boy.
He was going back to sleep when he noticed something. Shoutarou's hair looked funny. Shoutarou always took pride of his look, and his hair being one of the most thing he was proudest at. Looking at how weird it looked now made Phillip let out a soft chuckle. It was a rare view.
His gaze moved from the hair to the face. Phillip smiled. He had always liked Shoutarou's jaw. For some reason, it looked very... manly. And hard-boiled, as Shoutarou said. Phillip knew that his appearance, especially his face and moreover jaw, looked feminine. That was why he liked looking at Shoutarou's face -- it was something gorgeous that he didn't have.
"Akiko, don't disturb me..." Phillip's eyes widened, then he laughed softly. Shoutarou was sleep-talking, it seemed. He always said he was a "hard-boiled person", but when he slept, he was just like another normal person. Such facts were amusing to Phillip.
He placed his finger on Shoutarou's jaw, then chin. What a beautiful face, he thought. He had wanted to touch his face for a long time now, and when he did now, it felt really nice.
Phillip let out another sigh. He looked hesitant for a moment. But it was a one-time chance, he thought. He probably wouldn't find Shoutarou sleeping next to him for some time after this.
With that thought on his head, he leaned forward and planted a kiss on the detective's cheek.

"Good mor -- Whoa!"
Shoutarou and Phillip opened their eyes simultaneously to the sound of a screaming Akiko.
"What's with the roses?" he asked the boys, who were both yawning and scratching their heads.
"Oh! I did a research on them before I went to sleep!" Phillip lighted up suddenly. "Did you know that rose actually contains more than a hundred species?"
"He fell asleep in the middle of his rose research," Shotarou said, ignoring the blurting fact from the younger boy. "it was a mess like this when I got here last night."
"You can't call roses as ' a mess'! They're beautiful!" Akiko protested, replied by Shoutarou's rolling eyes. "Anyway I've bought some donuts on my way here, I figured you guys haven't had breakfast yet."
"Donuts? Whoa, I'm coming!" Shoutarou stood up and said. "Phillip, you coming too?"
"Of course," the knowledge master said with a smile. Shoutarou gave him a hand to help him standing up.
Their eyes met when their hands touched, and their gazes were locked to each other's eyes. Both blinked their eyes, and felt a raising temperature on their cheeks as butterflies began to swarm on their stomaches as they remembered the event earlier night.
"Hey! Are you two coming or not?" Akiko's loud voice brought the two back to reality, and Shoutarou shouted a "yes!" as he hurried up to the office, with Phillip tailing him behind.
"Oh yeah!" Shoutarou said suddenly. "I read that Wakana-hime's gonna host a special 2-hour radio program this evening."
"Really?" Phillip asked with a cheerful beam on his face.
"Yep! Santa-san said that to me yesterday, he said that it's supposed to be a secret surprise, but I figured that you might want to know first."
"That's awe --"
A sudden sound of a breaking plate startled the two of them, followed by Akiko's "Nooooo!". Shoutaroud face-palmed.
"What are you doing, baka Akiko!" he shouted as he walked over to the source of the sound. Phillip eyed the boy as he walked, his eyes was fixed on his cheek -- where he... He blushed as he reached his lips, last night's event playing in his mind over and over again.
"Phillip, a hand please?" Shoutarou asked, surprising the boy.
"Ah, y-yes," he replied while quickly looked around to look for the broom, then walked quickly when he found it.
Shoutarou's gaze flew to Phillip's worried face. He stared from the chin, then the cheek, then the forehead. He looked at the last part a little longer than the others. He then touched his lips as he remembered what had happened the night before, causing his face to redden a bit.
"Here's the broom!" Phillip said, handing the item on his hand to Akiko. He took a peek at Shoutarou, who was taking a peek at him at the same time. They both then looked away, trying to busy themselves with the breaking plate.
These moments were treasures.
These moments they spend together were the best moments of their lifes, and they didn't want anything to break the friendship -- the treasures they had now.
And that was why no one was to know about the secret kiss last night.
period.
