The cathedral was certainly impressive, by the standards of humanity of course. They were so fond of their gaudy architecture, really. A shame it could never compare to the beauty of the wide ocean, or the sunrise glinting off the Ratterlin and sending the morning mist scattering before its might.
Or the grace and sheer power of a great fire, consuming everything in its path until nothing stood before it.
There would be time for that later. At the moment, Mogget had a cathedral to utterly destroy before he could properly raze it.
The faithful didn't so much as blink as the strange white cat wove between their legs, unaware of his unnatural heat and shifting shadow, and oblivious to the reek of magic rolling off him. How pathetic, he didn't even have to mask it here. They were deaf to the Charter, blind to all else. He craned his head up toward the sky--the odd passerby might have thought that even the cats here on this holy ground were praying. They would have been wrong. Mogget was admiring the view, yes, he had to admit the construction was impressive. Truly worth a good show. He was glad that he'd done his research before coming.
He was easily able to slip into the great building without notice. Though in his normal state he fairly glowed, he was able to reverse the appearance as well, seeming to draw all light into him until he was nothing more than a darker shadow amongst shadows. The great height above the altar was examined, and while he knew that it would be a vastly tall ceiling, seeing it firsthand inspired Mogget. Oh yes.
He was quite adept at climbing, and twisting his body so it wouldn't be spotted as he scaled the wall was an enjoyable challenge. Hanging from the ceiling by his elongated paws until the time was right was satisfying, much like stalking a particularly succulent mouse. Mogget was a hunter, he could wait.
The intricacies of mass were lost on Mogget, he simply didn't care. He wasn't here to listen to some overdressed clergyman drone on and on. He was here to make things burn.
And now the time was right. Mogget lept from the ceiling beam he'd perched himself on, twisting and changing form--in no more than an eyeblink, he was himself--Yrael--all bright fire and destruction. The addition of great flaming wings spreading from his back completed the effect. After all, these people worshipped a god that used such creatures as messengers, didn't they? Yrael smashed down into the altar like a falling star, setting it ablaze, and rose up in the midst of the inferno--bright white against deadly orange and red. Except he was deadlier than any fire. The wings snapped out with a sound like thunder, leaving fire and screaming in their wake. Yrael spoke then, with hissing and cracking in his voice, sparks flying from his mouth, the reek of hot metal rolling off of him in waves.
"'Then, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.'"
He smiled then, a great gash of darkness in an otherwise luminant face. One long-fingered hand pointed toward the priest--his clothing exploded into flame, and his screams filled the air and set the faithful fleeing.
"Will you not go to Him? Lo, a pyre hath been prepared for His children."
Yrael's smile only grew wider as the screams grew louder. But he tired of it. Careful not to incinerate the gift he'd promised Farfarello, the eighth shiner let his magic flow outward unchecked, instantly turning living people to ash, and setting the ancient cathedral ablaze.
"I never will understand such people," Yrael sniffed, carefully taking the golden box in hands that he carefully controlled the magic in--to protect, keep, instead of destroy. The wings, he kept, they would be useful--and he leapt straight up, using the 'wings' to propel him even faster upward, through the vaulted ceiling. His passage set the roof aflame as well, and as he watched and fed the flames with his own magic, the cathedral collapsed in on itself, burning merrily. The roar of the inferno nearly drowned out the screaming from the streets below.
"I do hope that will suffice. It was rather entertaining, at least."
((The mun in NO WAY condones the destroying of the Cologne Cathedral. :D;; From
