we've been running around everywhere in hong kong for the last 4 days and im tired. HK is beautiful - it has bunches of skyscrapers, and is actually quite clean considering what I was expecting. The roads are completely litter free - only the occasional spots on the sidewalk. The Hong Kong skyline at night is really the most beautiful one i've ever seen, better lit than Vegas and more impressive than New York. Plus you get free seaside views from Kowloon. Land here is really (reeeeally) expensive... a square foot of apartment space in the most expensive areas comes at $3000 US to buy. That's in a 30+ floor tower. So when you consider that most apartments in the area are 1100 sq. feet = 3,300,000 dollars for a teeny apt. Some run up to 25 million. IF you want a parking space for your car... that'll set you back $250... per month for a space in a teeny parking garage. Two days ago we went to macao, which is just like HK except dirtier, with shorter buildings and random portuguese (sp?) architecture all over the place. Yesterday my mom went home - its just me and mon pere right now.
oh... and people here are really rude. families tend to walk very slowly holding hands on the sidewalk, obstructing the whole way for people. you can't pass, and other people will literally push you out of the way if you stop and wait up for the group. Yesterday, a man shoved me off a sidewalk because I was blocking his way. Plus the sidewalks are LOADED with people so it's hard to go anywhere anyways. And he didn't apologize. what an ass. the next time someone pushes me out of the way, i swear i'll kickem in the nuts.
PS. just wondering... does anyone want to go to germany w/ me next year and study... there's a program where my dad says you can get fluent in 2 months. I don't know any german and plan on not knowing any when i leave... just let me know or give me a ring
