There are many ways to help others. Being knowledgeable about a certain topic will almost certainly come in handy. It could be medicine, scavenging, mechanics, or anything like that.

I'm assuming you...tried fighting?

If I am not imposing, I would like to say that it isn't that you're not doing well, it's because you are doing the wrong thing. A person your size is not suited for throwing punches and kicks. You should study a different martial art...like Aikido.
