She brushed her long, black hair behind her ear. She put her hat on her head, and grabbed her umbrella. She hadn't left to do anything special, and her mind was on auto-pilot. Her hands deftly manipulated the keys and put her shoes on in one move. She quickly stepped down the stairs, the sound of her shoes clicking and echoing through the stairwell.
Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, she paused to open her umbrella before stepping into the busy street. Despite the rain, the streets were filled with people running to work, running to the store, running to their wives, running to school, and running to the light at the end of the tunnel.

He pulled on his pants and buttoned up his shirt half-heartedly. His air was filled with malaise, his heart with apathy. Putting on his shoe, he lost his balance and fell into the windowsill. The empty man cursed at his bruises and his window. With his usual pessimism, he remarked that it was raining. He looked disdainfully at the people below, all rushing to something that obviously didn't matter. Below was a sea of black umbrellas and scurrying people. He almost turned away, before noticing a single bright blue umbrella. In a sea of black conformity, this blue umbrella bobbed along happily, practically skipping. His eyes followed the umbrella as it collapsed and entered the bank.
Compelled by a force he couldn't recognize, he ran down to his hallway to the elevator. Jumping from foot to foot like an impatient child, he waited for the doors to open. He paced inside the elevator, and finally ran out into the street. His work clothes were getting wet, and he accidentally bumped into an old woman who threw angry words at him. Finally reaching the bank, he looked in to find the owner of the umbrella. Like a man crazed, his eyes roved over the bank customers before finding her. She was pale, with long, black hair under a round hat. The umbrella stood at her side, casting a glow on her.
Not really knowing what he had in mind, he entered the bank to talk to the woman with the blue umbrella.
