Seems like now that the kitchen is empty and Mum has gone on holiday, my recent posts are all food-centred. Today's no exception.
Lunch with Pops was supposed to be at my favourite Hakka Yong Tau Foo store along Upper Changi Road, but as usual the store was so packed that we couldn't get a parking lot. 2nd time this week. Bummer! In the end, we decided to eat at a famous chicken rice store along Katong, 5 Star Hainanese Chicken Rice Restaurant, which I hadn't patronised in a long time.
Drumstick and breastmeat, with 2 plates of rice.
Bean sprouts with cuttlefish, yummy.
Chicken was nice and tender, though a little too oily/salty for my liking. Rice on the other hand didn't have enough garlic omph to it. Bean sprouts were acceptable, but cuttlefish was way too little. Something tells me that the place was doing so well that the food standard was starting to get compromised.
Dinner with hubs had already been planned the previous day:
Aston's Specialties at Katong. So it was a trip back to Katong after work. Thought we would be pretty early since the hubs reached there before 7pm, but as usual there was a queue. Thankfully we didn't wait very long, managed to be seated after about 20 minutes of queuing. Possibly coz there was another outlet, Aston's Prime, just round the corner.
Mushroom soup, to tide through the wait.
My Wagyu Ribeye, medium well, served with pasta salad and garden veg.
The hubs' Ribeye X-tra Cut, medium, served with coleslaw and onion rings.
The mushroom soup was superb in taste, but a tad too watery to be called "Cream of Mushroom". Garlic bread served with the soup was delish! My Wagyu Ribeye was totally scrumptious, though I think it loses out to the Kobe beef I had in Hokkaido. Taste buds have been forever spoilt by the Kobe beef. Hubs' Ribeye X-tra Cut was pretty good, with a fair balance of fat and meat, and just nicely done. Somehow I think the mushroom sauce served with the beef has also been somewhat diluted; no concentrated yummy-ness that it used to have. Perhaps that's why some folks have been saying the standard has dropped. I seriously think commercialising a food business really does have its setbacks.
Oh well, I think I'll be putting on a ton this entire fortnight that Mum isn't around. Die-die must go buy groceries to cook healthy meals at home soon!
