Interesting! A very beautiful Gin/Ran portrayal. Oh, why isn't there more for them!
I am a sound-to-taste synesthete myself. (In particular, I taste the notes of the scale, especially in the range around middle C. ^_^)
I think my favorite line is this one right here. "Periwinkle-snow falls around them; Gin swears he's getting a toothache. She tells him stories that she doesn't remember and his world stretches at the seams with oceans under clear skies. He licks his lips, overwhelmed by the spices."
My only nitpick synesthesia-wise is that in order to be classified as such--the sensations must always be the same between the senses and they will never change. But I know that you did the changing of the sensations for artistic effect, so I forgive you, lol. Unless of course, he also has a form of emotional synesthesia...which is completely possible. A woman in my laboratory is emotion-color as well as letter-color, and she seems to have a bit more flexibility as far as sensory perception goes because of it, more like what I see here. Gah...sorry I'm such a nerd.
Ah~ Well, since I don't know much about the actual condition, I assumed that the sensations would change as the sound of Rangiku's voice got deeper and she basically goes through puberty. LOL
