Summary: They're two parts of a whole after all--can't have one without the other. The only question is, which is dark and which is light

Winter comes creeping like the roaches under beds, scuttling little creatures hidden under the sands of summer, the leaves of autumn. A dog pads through the streets, a priceless blue gem tied around his throat-a tailisman...no. A collar\chain\restraint\leash. He sniffs the air, blinking as a black feather lands-perfectly balanced-on his nose; he sneezes, shakes his head and pads on. He leaves no footprints in the freshly fallen snow.

The young earl glances over the papers on his desk with raised brows; his eyes flicker to the clock on the wall. Sebastian is late for tea. Ciel scoffs, making a mental note to punish him for it later. He leans back, eyes-eye-closing. The fingers of his hands automatically wander to the ring on his thumb. They fiddle and fiddle until lines appear on his skin, rubbed redredraw. The clock tolls in 3PM. Ciel cracks open his singularly blue eye and watches as the minute hand crawls around the face of the clock.

Like a spider around her web...

"I beg your pardon, young master. I was late for tea."

"Eh~ That's unlike you, Claud." Alois Trancy grins and dangles his feet on the arms of the chair, velvet under leather shoes. He twirls a strand of platinum hair, tugging at the locks. "I wonder how I should punish you..." He giggles and glances at the butler, filling bone-china boats with steaming tea. It'll only be a matter of time before they sink.

"Today's afternoon tea is Darjeeling from Bengal. It is harvested only by the most skilled female workers on nights of the full moon. It is also said to carry the 'best aroma of passing spring'." A bone-china boat, weighed down with liquid amber sat down on a matching bone-platter, three seconds from shattering to dust-lined in silver, coated in gold, flowers drawn from diamond-ink. Only the best for his young master.

A dog sits outside the door, a broken crow-doll in his teeth.

"And you took care of the jewel thief?" Ciel tastes the brand new tea and sets the cup back down again. Sebastian is quaterizing the refreshments into sections, placing a slice in front of Ciel. He picks up is fork and toys with the raspberries on top. They topple off the fort of snow, leaving only blood-stained-cream behind. He never even takes a bite.

"Of course."

Ciel asks no more questions and puts down his fork. The steam from the tea is wrapping round his eyes, his nose, his ears, his mouth, dulling every single sense until he's only drifting in a sea of liquid amber.

A spider wraps the broken crow-doll carefully in her webs, lovinglylovingly-binding it tight.

"Where is the thief now?" Alois says through a mouthful of cake. Claud reaches over and wipes a bit of icing from his cheek.

"Erased..."

Alois smirks, throwing his head back to laugh. The fork clatters against the delicate bone-plate, effectively crack-crack-shattering it in halves\fourths\sixteenths\millionths of a plate. Liquid amber flows through the cracks, staining the linen-white linens-with colour. Like blush on many a frozen-girl's cheeks.

The black dog shivers and pads back home, bright-blue glimmers under white-washed skies.
The spider continues to weave her webs, down dark alleys where no one can find...
Yet one more crow spreads its wings to fly; the Queen's Guard Dog is on his way,
The spider grins through shining red, and knows that soon it's her time to play.
