I spent invasion day at a very nice garden sitting under the shade of some rather old and impressive trees, drinking a rather heavy chardonnay, watching kids ride mini ponies and others play croquet. It was rather delightful. After that we came back home and went to sleep, then woke up and watched some Prison Break. Slightly more intense, but still rather delightful.
I saw Pan's Labrynth yesterday with Godot and Readis. I think it would be better to just translate the title directly and call it The Labrynth of the Faun, as the faun in it clearly wasn't Pan at all, but then, that's just my opinion. I really liked the faun, though, part goat, part tree, part stone, part old thing from another place. It was at once frightening and completely trustworthy. The child-eating monster was brilliantly done, however was not the most frightening monster in the film. The violence is quite startling and very uncomfortable to watch, but somehow makes the film even more worth seeing.
Some things happened this week. I set up a work plan with my boss that is likely to result in an increase in wages in about five months. I was quite surprised that it would happen so fast. See gave me some very positive feedback on my work so far. It feels good to be on the right track.
Next week they are having a party. It is to welcome me and the other new guy, and also to celebrate the January birthdays.
On Wednesday I talked to Godot and Readis's landlords when they came in for an annual inspection of the place. They are happy for me to take over the lease when Godot and Readis buy a new place. I'm rather happy about that. This is a nice apartment. I will probably have to get a flat mate, though. I could manage on my own, but I wouldn't have any room in my budget to move.
So, on the whole, it's all going rather well so far.
I just miss Jay. Seeing those mini ponies today didn't help any, either. *sniff*
