now for a more generalized update

Coming home from Vietnam was so surreal. One day, it's 85 degrees and there are motorbikes and rambutans and rats and noise noise noise, the next day (well sort of...i got to live through March 14th twice!!) I am walking my dogs along the Lincoln River, the only sound being the crunch of my boots on the ice. Overall, I'm enjoying it. It's all about overhauling my priorities and direction. I don't know if I reported this or not but I didn't get in to Grad School which sux but on the other hand I'm ok with not following poetry to the highest academic heights. Blech, anyways.
So my plan B was always to go to Wayne State for the History/Archives path but recently, I've found a new program that I think might suit me the best. At EMU, they have a masters program in Historic Preservation and Conservation that is taught jointly through the history and geography departments. Basically it grooms people to work either in a museum/archive/library setting doing collections management (taking care of artifacts) or to work with local governments to implement development plans that protect and preserve historical sites and buildings. Pretty rad, eh? My problem has always been that my interests have always been so divergent- love science, love art, love history, love writing, love being outside. This kinda mixes all of them. We'll see. I'm heading down to Ypsi this weekend with my sis to talk to the program director.I'm thinking this could also lead to some kind of career in environmental history, whether that mean further study or not, I'm not sure.
Also, I have a job interview tomorrow at the State Park. I could be working in the Nature Center there handling snakes, turtles and baby raccoons. Or as a piping plover steward, monitoring nesting sites, tagging birds, etc. Either way, the future is shaping up to be pretty fun.

state park, happiness, grad school
