So currently I am sitting at a PC bang. My boyfriend is playing Sudden Attack on the computer next to me. We're in a really, really shady area of Daegu, close to the airport. We left our apartment yesterday so the new teachers could move in. We relocated to this area so we could easily get up and hop on our Daegu to Seoul flight tomorrow afternoon. For now we are in stasis until tuesday when the real trans-Pacific flying begins.
The hotel we are staying in is not really a hotel but a "love motel," a cheap dive that men take their mistresses or prostitutes to. You can rent a room for an hour or 24 hours depending on what your needs are. Ours is located next to a "health spa" and "barber shop" for men. Where you can shower, buy a bottle of whiskey, and then get a hand job. Last night, the room we slept in was the kind of room you could easily imagine someone dying of sexual asphysiation in. Bare wires hanging from the ceiling. Curious smears on the wall. A broken air conditioner that dripped brownish water onto the bed. After our farewell dinner with our co-workers, we returned to our room where we sat up into the wee hours watching Silence of the Lambs.
This afternoon, the nice old lady that works at the front desk moved us to a "newer", "nicer" room complete with mood lighting and a huge circular, pink velour bed. Today we spent the rainy afternoon watching that horribly hilarious Matthew McConnehy (how do you spell that?) movie about Africa. Sahara maybe? Who knew that Lynyrd Synyrd and Nigerian politics made such great cinema! Thanks Matty, you stinker!
More on the hotel....Has anyone ever played Silent Hill? The hotel is kind of like that, minus the zombies (or maybe not. i haven't left the room much). Also, when we went to the airport to pick up our tickets, on the way back the taxi driver got really mad at us when I gave him the card for the hotel."What country?" he asked brusquely, which in Korea is code for "Are you Russian whores or are you American/Canadian teachers?" Well, I did have head scarf on....
anyhoo- back in the US tuesday. If we live that long.
