Hello all.
It's updating time!
- I made it to the Foreign Service Oral Assessment. *proceeds to tear hair out* Anywho, I'll be off to DC again on April 24, got my exam on the 25, then I'm staying about another week so I can schedule interviews w/ other places.
- Related to that, the UT diplomat-in-residence is hosting an information session on the 8th, so my mom and I are road-tripping it to Austin and spending a night there. Should be fun.
- I'm a bridesmaid! And more importantly, my wonderful Jessie is a bride-to-be! So a couple weekends ago I went to a wedding expo w/ her and her mommy and then we went to pick out dresses. And Monday's fittings!
- I'm a delegate this Saturday at the county convention. It's a whole-day shebang. Could be boring, could be interesting, but at least it's another experience I'll have to talk about. I know I didn't talk about the caucus experience here, but lemme just say that was insanity. My dad's a delegate too, actually, and my mom's an alt. My dad has big dreams of going all the way to the nat'l convention, but his chances are pretty slim. Actually I've never seen him as politically revved up as he is this election. After March 4 I think I kind of caught election fatigue, but my dad's still going strong, off on his political tirades early in the morning when the rest of us are barely awake. But srsly, Democrats, let's wrap this thing up.
- I've been "career shopping" of late. I know next to nothing about suits, but the lady at Firewheel Ann Taylor Loft was amazingly helpful and I got a cute black pinstripe jacket and skirt set with a pink cami to go underneath. Black pumps, on the other hand, were ridiculous to try to find and I didn't settle on a pair 'til today. And I do mean "settle". They have to have a reasonably thick heal so they're not too wobbly, and also not be too high. I found a couple of pairs like that, but for one reason or another they just weren't comfortable, i.e. my toes were getting crushed or it was pinchy at the back. (This is a rather serious issue considering I have to be walking and catching buses and trains in Washington so I can't be falling all over myself or reeling in pain during an already stressful time.) I finally decided to just wear flats while I'm commuting; they're small enough that I can pack them up in a zippy and stuff them in my bag while I switch to my pumps right before I go into whichever building I'm interviewing at. So the shoes I got aren't the most comfortable, but I hope not to be walking in them too much anyhow.
- I notice my bullets are getting longer and longer, so I'm putting this one in just to break it up.
- Finally, I joined this new (to me, anyway) lj community picturing_food. This group is tailor-made for me. I'm not much of a picture-taker and I don't cook much besides eggs (which I'm very good at), but one day when I'm in a more permanent life routine, I think I'll post to it too. Only problem is it clogs up my flist, but if I don't flist it I might forget to look at it.
That is all!
