Time for a real update.
Actually, I dunno. I was all ready to go and now I think I lost the juice.
Well we're going anyway.
Since graduation I have:
- taken a language test in Hindi over the phone for the Foreign Service, which left me feeling like a complete failure so we'll just forget about that
- played lots and lots and lots of World of Warcraft, but recently stopped again altogether
- finally got to see the extended versions of all three LotR movies (currently in the process of watching the extras, which I love)
- re-watched My Girl, this time with my brother; even better the second time around, and I'll have to re-watch Full House to verify, but it may even be better than that
- continued working in the periodicals department, and now I'm technically staff because I had to quit working as a student when the break was over
- cleaned my room, AND my desk; now I just need to vacuum, and I may even tackle my closet
- been reading! free journals they were getting rid of at work, and now I'm actually starting on my reading list, because I don't have to read just what the professor tells me anymore!
- been job-hunting... so far the best thing seems to be this D.C.-based non-profit working for justice in U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, so today I've been tweaking my cover letter and resume to send in, hopefully by tomorrow
- been corresponding with Foreign Service Officers, trying to get tips for how to do well on the oral exam... if I get that far
Wow, that is pathetically little to have accomplished in a month.
My work schedule isn't helping to alleviate my sloth-like sleeping cycles, either. Since I normally begin at 3 and don't get off until 8, I come home and stay up late, then sleep in the next day until 12 or later, then go to work again. I've been trying to at least accomplish things during those late hours, but I just don't think it's happening tonight...
In happier news, I look damn cute today, if I do say so myself. I have to admit, I'm channeling a bit of Lee Da Hae's
look from the aforementioned My Girl. I got a sweater at Wet Seal when I was doing Christmas exchanges and buying jeans, and later I realised it just screamed Ju Yu Rin's character... so I went with it, and added the bun kinda 'do and little dangly earrings (that I didnt even realise I had and found while I was cleaning my desk), and it worked!
By the way, if you're not watching Korean dramas yet, you need to get with the program. These things have Mexican women abandoning their novelas and Middle Eastern television stations picking them over American soaps (not as much to censor, so I gather), and everyone from fashionistas in Japan to black women in Hawaii love them. Myself I need to fix the subtitles on my computer so I can actually finish Choon-Hyang...
I also finally got a reference on Korean, so whenever I get around to it, I intend to teach myself some basic conversation as well as Hangeul.
...just like I've been meaning to teach myself Arabic script.
And this ultimately is why I can't see myself in any job besides the Foreign Service. If I can't make up my mind whether I want more to go to South Korea, Lebanon, India, or any one of a million other places, then this is really the only job with the potential to send me to all of those places for any length of time, language instruction included.
I also have a serious obsession with baby pandas lately. Especially that kind that sneeze and fall out of trees. And rhyme.
Final thought: Britney Spears's new "Piece of Me" video is kinda... good? It's no "Toxic", but I
really thought she was not coming back after the horror that was "Gimme More"...
Also, are we seriously supposed to believe that she knows where the Phillipines is?
