Her footsteps are decidedly silent as she tiptoes in the darkened room to the jewelry box on the dresser. She lifts up the lid and closes her eyes, trying to hear in her head the voice that once told her not to take her earrings, but the voice doesn’t come- even in her head she can’t create it and a tear slips down her cheek.
“Buffy?” the whisper comes.
“Mommy?”
“It’s me…” Dawn squeaks as she steps into the room. “I can’t sleep.”
Buffy touches her sister’s hair, a soft smile on her lips. “Let’s go watch a movie together.”
