this is from the fourth day of travels in the homeland. the heat/humidity had started to melt my brains down. i always enjoy meeting new people in foreign places. they are always so much more welcoming than the assholes in los angeles.

my eyes crack open at 0530. i kill the alarm and go brush my teeth and gather my computer and camera. mom says to grab what dirty laundry i have to wash when we get to saigon. i thought i was gonna do it myself, not so much. i guess we drop em off and pick up later. go to my uncles house, and hes fixing a busted water line. 2 other uncles are there and i meet them for the first time ever. its nice to finally meet them and shake their hands. im near 26 now, and im more than happy to meet them and enjoy their company. they wonder how mom gave birth to me. since i shadow all of them. height and weight. we sit for a while, talk, have some beer (heineken), and we make our way to the center of the city to pick up my other uncle(dads eldest). i have about 18 aunts and uncles, so bear with me. we pick them up and make way to my grandmas sisters house a few blocks over. the old ladys got quite the taste and has a really nice home built to her liking. her son is one of my favorite uncles back home. quite the character. and she isnt any different. she gives me the biggest hug and says shes heard alot about me. grandma, may she rest in peace, has told her many a story about me and my antics at home. along with the rest of the family i hear. i already love the old woman. shes the sweetest thing ever and shes about 12 years younger than grams was. so we sit and talk. her daughter comes home and we all sit and have some tea. its so fucking hot, but i have to drink it. out of respect. they bring me out some flan that my aunt had made earlier. so effin good, you wouldnt believe. the custard was alot lighter than your normal flan, but much better. the texture was more jello than pudding. after we sit a while i venture over to the market place. i can buy pretty much whatever i want here. for very little. i dont really find anything i want to bring home so we just trek around and then head back for lunch. me and the driver walk about 4 clicks around the market and through surrounding area. i found a neat scooter helmet for about 6usd. hard to find hardware that fits my giant figure here in the homeland. dad calls as we are en route and says they are at the market, pick up there. when they come out they arent carrying much more than a bag with a few shirts. mom says its eco day and they will deliver the groceries to the house. they didnt wanna use up plastic bags, so they would load them into the delivery guys scooter. pretty cool. he shows up at the door right after we do. so we help him unload and then we head off to a noodle house. oh my. the broth was amazing and so was the crispy duck i had with it. as soon as we finish there we walk back to her house and load the van up and make our ride home. 3 hours later and here we are. i walk in the door to find my AC unit in my room is busted. of course. even on the other side of the world i get the hottest room. it never fails. i try to read but thats not happening. so i grab the fan downstairs and crash. in a pool of sweat mind you. i wake up. AC still busted, so i make it a point to walk down to the beach for some R&R.
