Greetings from a prospective student. I'm currently only a junior in highschool, but starting next fall I'll be sending out the applications, and Tulane is currently at the very top of my list. I'm from Tennessee, and therefore it's not exactly simple for me to make it down for a campus visit or any of that jazz, but nonetheless, I've been interested in Tulane for awhile. A big part of this is the fact that it's in New Orleans. And until recently (recently meaning about a half hour ago when I started reading the Tulane communities on LJ) I believed Tulane absolutely MUST have a great music department. Especially jazz. Why wouldn't they, I figured, it's NOLA afterall?

So is all this negativity I've been reading about the music department simply centered around the orchestra part, or the vocal part, or is it just the department on a whole, jazz included? Like I said, I can't really get down there to visit so I'm completely in the dark as to the goings on of the campus and the students, so I'm going to rely on you lot for the experience/opinions.

And how's the english/writing department? Decent? Wonderful? Horrible?

Until I started reading all the negative current-student opinions about Tulane, I was hyped about applying and being accepted (hopefully) but now I find that I'm worried. While Tulane isn't my only choice, it is/was my first choice.

So, if it isn't too much to ask, tell me if I'm being delusional and completely off course.
