Sakura was startled from her sleep when the iron-gate opened with a shriek. She was too weak to see properly, everything was blurry and her eyes itched like an old sunburn. What she wouldn’t give to rub her eyes, or cry. Unfortunately, her arms were still suspended above her head, most likely dislocated, and she was far beyond dehydrated. She wondered how long it had been since she last ate. Sasuke had brought her some water when he’d visited, but in order for his plan to work, he had to restrain her again.
Sakura barely registered the footsteps of whoever entered her cell. It wasn’t until she heard the clanking of her manacles that she realized something was different. They were letting her down. Why would they let her down?
“Wha…What are you d-doing?” she croaked.
They said nothing.
When her wrists were released from the manacles, Sakura slumped to the ground, supported by the hands of her visitors. They gently lowered her onto a gurney and immediately removed her from the cell. She moaned objections to each jarring bump, but the people escorting her never said a word. She wondered if she was headed for her execution…or her wedding. At this point she didn’t know which would be worse.
The relocation process took a good ten minutes of traveling through dim hallways and up stairways. Sakura was far too dizzy to be fully aware of her surrounds. The lighting was poor and her vision too blurry to really see where they were taking her. When the world finally stopped spinning, she was in a bright room and that was the extent of her knowledge. The people around her began to hook her up to IVs and other medical equipment. As out of her wits as she was, Sakura knew now that they weren’t going to kill her. A masked person hovered over her head and she thought of Kakashi-sensei. A bright light was shone into her eyes and she squinted against the burning. A moment later, a cold needle pierced the skin of her forearm and a stinging sensation shot through her veins. Heavy numbness filled her body and everything went black.
