Here's a good place to record my intentions so I can forget to look back at them later on.
I always think of things I'd like to do when I'm really busy and vow to do them when I have more time, like in the summer when most of my extra-curricular activities go away.
Things like cycling, swimming, horseriding, sewing (when I replace the lost bits for my sewing machine), playing violin, flute, julian, concertina, learning piano, organising a singy group for west gallery and sacred harp singing, reading etc.
Last night i was inspired by a guy caled Colin who John the banjo met through an Irish guy in Santa Fe spotting his t-shirt of the pub where the irish guy had set up a session 25 years ago who then gave John a cd to give to a friend of his who has a recording studio in east Fife. Colin plays in a band I've never heard of called the 'Yard of Ale' who play the pub and club circuit, although not the Folk gigs because there's no money in it - shock horror. I think they do mostly acoustic covers of popular soft rock like the stones, rod stewart and stuff but he was very good. Anyway, watching him play guitar (as with watching anyone do something well) gave me a hankering to improve my skills as I remember how much I liked playing and singing and its lovely being able to accompany yourself, so I'd like to be able to do it better.
I then decided I'll need to expand my repertoire beyond ballads as they're a bit dull. Not that I particularly want to play for other people's pleasure but its good to be well rounded. I'll have to make a list of songs I know and ones I want to learn. I have been thinking (guiltily) of doing acoustic covers of my favourite cheesy 80s ('soft') rock songs, but then I;ve also been thinking about learning to play them on electric. Or learning to play my electric. But I feel one man and an electric guitar is harder to get satisfaction out of, as in you miss the rest of a band.
Anyway. There's one inention fully recorded. We'll see where that goes. Maybe in the same box as wanting to learn the clarinet. Or Dutch.
Must do lunch with Joanna.
Have a pseudo interview today for invigilating people doing exams in rooms by themselves. Sounds like a very taxing job.
Hannah out.
