The American people in their refusal to learn - and public-
school-educated ignorance of - history have voted into
office the type of man of whom Lenin would be most proud.
Oh America... we have not had Communism forced upon us,
but have chosen it for ourselves. What a foolish choice it is...
but when will we realize it?

It's a funny and sad situation, really. You look at people like me and think that we're missing something. Meanwhile, people like me look at people like you and think you're missing something. Each of us is absolutely convinced that we are right, and we get so angered by what we perceive as ignorance in the other.
So who is right? ....Maybe neither. Maybe both. You may think you know, but you don't actually know. Neither do I.
So I'm going to take a deep breath and remind myself that we're all in the same spot, that we're all in this together, and that our hearts are in the right place. I will do my part to help this world and country become a place of cooperation. If things go wrong, we will stop and rethink, we will make a change, and we will move forward from there. That's what happened in the past when America declared independence and wrote its own constitution, that's what is happening now as we react to this economic crisis, and that's what will happen in the future as we face further difficulties.
To err is human. And yes, it is human to repeat mistakes. But it's also human to keep on struggling and to keep on trying, and it's also human to succeed, to learn, and to accomplish great things.
I know it's easy for me to speak of being hopeful when the candidate I voted for won. But I am hopeful because I think Obama will listen to your voices and opinions as well. That means a lot to me.

mean Obama's is. In addition, I look at the people who
voted for Obama and see people who are ignorant of or
refuse to learn from history.
But I also blame the Republicans: McCain was an idiot
and he deserved to lose (as this beautiful article says).
He only gained the widespread Republican support that
he did because he added Sarah Palin to his ticket.
Obama won't listen to my voice. Or your voice either.
He doesn't like people. He kicked the reporters whose
paper's disagreed with him off his plane. He doesn't
discuss issues with dissenters, he "bans" them or tries
to silence them. He's not interested in dialog.

Anyway, I guess time will tell...
I'm sure Palin is a smart woman in her way, but from the interviews I've seen she doesn't appear to have the necessary presence of mind to be vice president. She had trouble answering some basic, important questions when under the spotlight. I'm sure I'd be the same way (you know how bad I am at reciting exact facts and details), but then, I'm not running for vice president.
At any rate, I'm sure you don't actually want to jump into a political debate, but I couldn't help but respond. (You know how it is.) :-p :)
Hope you're doing well!

to the ticket doesn't mean I think she would've made a
wonderful VP. Then again, Biden ain't all that either.
Obama's true nature is self-stated: redistribute wealth,
bankrupt the coal industry, strengthen unions, provide
universal healthcare, etc, etc. All the things that he
openly says he supports are the very things I despise.
But the reality is that his economic plans are proven by
history to be destructive and that is what we have to
look forward to in the coming years. Removal of our right
to own guns, restrictions on religious freedom, a "civilian
national security force" (he said it!), socialism.
That's the future under him. His fund-raising is corrupt,
he and the other democrats who benefited directly from
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac worked not to fix the obvious
problems with the companies but rather refused to address
the problems! Change?! The change we'll get from Obama is
more corruption in the federal government and what's left of
my paycheck when he's done giving it away and making the
government even larger and more powerful. :-|

Clearly people are tired of the way things have been, so the government was not operating in the best interests of its people. Now the people have spoken, and they're going to try Obama's approach. If that doesn't work, a new person will be elected in four or eight years.
I am refraining from addressing the specific points you raised about Obama's actions and policies because I don't feel like getting into a big circular discussion, especially not on your blog; that's just disrespectful to you.
My point was simply to say that I'm sorry that you're upset, and I'm hopeful everything will work out for the best for everyone involved.
That is all. :)
