Election what?
From here the news is "too close to call"...is that true? I never really trusted the news before, but now that I'm far away, I don't know what to believe.
For all of my proto-radical posturing, I'm really nervous about another term of Bush. Ahhh...
And living abroad doesn't really make it any better. Well, I guess I do worry about American politics less, since it's not in my direct line of vision. But it still affects everything here. Taiwanese politics are really closely intertwined with American politics. And being in Southeast Asia, we see the affects of Amercian foreign & economic policy a lot more than at home.
What to do, what to do? Use my position and the media at my disposal to become a voice of dissent? Or dedicate time to "making a difference" on a small scale? How can I tell if the things I might do would help anyone besides me? How can I figure out the answers to these questions?
I still don't believe that voting is the best way (in federal US elections, at least), but the reality of the election is really making me realize that I'm being lazy. What's the point in having beliefs unless I act on them? Although I have a hard time even pinning down my beliefs in anything but broad, abstract terms. "Everyone deserves to eat", "Everyone should have the right to govern themselves", "Education, health care, and media tools should be available to everyone" etc...but how does all that get narrowed down to practical questions with yes/no answers?
