Three Packages
I am awakened at 10 by the bell, signaling that there is someone at the front door. I throw some clothes on as fast as possible and jet down the stairs to get open the door before the delivery man thinks no one is there. When I collect my packages I see that only two of the items I'd ordered, a laundry hamper and a 40 piece cooking set, are there. Missing is the dining set which I planned to eat the food (that I will make with my new cooking set) on. The delivery man says he will check and see if he missed. I head back upstairs, four minutes pass, and I decide he did not find my package and so I undress and lie back down in bed (I didn't go to sleep until 4:30).
Two minutes later the bell rings again and I again set a record for speed. But it is not the same delivery man as before and I realize that he is bearing the package which my parents sent to me. I had not expected to receive this today and naturally I was pleasantly surprised. So with some posters on the wall, an american powerstrip (and the things I can now plug in), a more complete kitchen set, and some mexican seasoning packets, my residence feels significantly more homey. Extra special thanks to Brandon for the handwritten letter he sent me (there is just something special about a handwritten letter, but the length of it made it even more special). Jessica and Brandon also got me birthday presents of a Nine Inch Nails T-Shirt and Poster respectively. All of this made for an exceedingly good day.

Self-Designated Activities Coordinator
Tomorrow night I am cooking a nice dinner (extravagant by dorm standards) of Chinese Pasta Salad, Peanut-Ginger Chicken and Apple Avocado Salad with Tangerine Dressing for 7 people, myself included, in the surrounding flats. My hope is that other people will pick up the ball and that we will make this into a weekly or bi-weekly event, so that all of us can have a nice dinner (that most of us don't have to cook for) and have an opportunity to socialize. Although I don't mind the cooking at all, this is fairly expensive for me, next time I'll make something simpler/cheaper like fajitas, tacos or homemade pizza. I figured the price was worth it, because I will have leftovers and a good evening. Plus the cost is about the same for two meals in a restaurant, so all in all it's very reasonable.
This is only one example of my many attempts to create socializing among the friends I have made. I feel kind of like Brie from Desperate Housewives, except without the cold-hearted perfectionism.
