UGH. So it turns out the fall from my car did affect my phone. It broke yesterday after I accidentally dropped it two feet. I took it into Cingular and the guy working said that not only are Motorola phones shitty phones, but that my model was particularily shitty. And no, it's not a RAZR. I heard those are pretty bad too.
I was reading online about mobile phone companies and apparently Motorola phones are only popular in the US. I definitely noticed that when I was in the UK, there were no Motorolas. Sony Ericsson and Nokia were big. I remember thinking how cute it was that a lot of people had Nokia and how much they changed since I had my Nokia back in high school. It was this huge red thing with a one inch screen and big block text. The model that everyone had. Ever since then I've had a Motorola and while the technology got better I always loved my old red Nokia, and was unsatisfied with Motorola. I had a Sony Ericsson in the UK and loved it. Luckily I'm eligible for an upgrade, so this weekend is phone shopping time! I think I might go with a Samsung, they have a model on the Cingular site that looks good. Does anyone have a Samsung cell phone and can tell me what they think? They don't have as much variety in Sony Ericssons here or else I would look into getting the phone that Danny had. That phone was so cool and took great pictures (a big deal now that I don't have a digital anymore). However, according to the Sony Ericsson website they don't even sell that model in the US. Frustrating.
The UK has a better selection in cell phones (mobiles). I also stumbled on this article detailing the difference in the UK moble phone culture vs. the US cell phone culture. After having texted so much in the UK and coming back here and having my friends call me in response to my texts, I thought the article was spot on. I rarely leave voicemails anymore and hate it when people leave me voicemails. The best part was the previous article it was based on, and the diagram showing where Europeans set their phones when they dine out. Set purposefully, but meant to look casual, in front of their plate. In order to highlight the brand and technology, haha. I definitely had one of the cheapest phones of most British people, but I did this anyway (maybe also so I would always have it nearby to read a text/answer a call) and have carried this habit back to the States where I look like one of the annoying cell phone obsessed people (I am). It's funny but I feel much more comfortable in UK mobile culture. I can't exactly detail it (anyone else feel the difference?) but the whole cell phone culture in the US is awkward to me now.
I'm a bit disappointed about losing my ringtones, old text messages and pictures. I had a lot of cute texts from Danny, some awesome 80's songs as ringtones and my wallpaper was a picture of the bouquet Danny sent me over the break. Oh well. I'll get over it I guess. Danny will send me more cute texts, maybe he'll send me another bouquet of pretty flowers, I can download new ringtones and best of all, this will all occur with my brand new phone!
