Why did I decide to start blogging again?
I started going through all my old entries on this site and it was so enlightening and entertaining that, no matter how pointless I feel at the time, my future self will thank me and love me for what I was
Why am I living in Chicago?

What a lovely surprise to find a new blog post from you and, more generally, to have news from you again! It's been a while since our last coffee date on Bloor Street in Toronto - I think that must've been winter or spring 2010? - but I can still read you and your honesty in this post. I love that about you.
Congratulations on finishing your Sociology program. It sounds like you have a good idea of where you want to go next in terms of career decisions. I'm sure you'll find some way to finance the teaching program at the UBC, and they'll be lucky to have you.
The body/health stuff is always more difficult. You seem aware of the more positive and sustainable methods you should be taking to attain your ideal weight, which is super important. If you have any friends who would be interested in joining a dance, zumba, kickboxing, hot yoga or strippercise class with you, these are some of the most alluring and fun ways to get fit. You'll really get to know how to move your body with grace, which can potentially add a whole new dimension of confidence to the way that you carry yourself in general. Now, admittedly I don't do any of that myself (at least not anymore; I did kickbox and do hot yoga in the past though) but my own fitness regimen is perhaps a little bit harder to follow, so I'm not sure if it's realistic to recommend to other people.
Still, if you're curious, what I personally do to keep fit are: 1) drink water all day long; 2) commute everywhere by bike; 3) play tennis once or twice a week. As far as I'm concerned, the first two activities are just "daily life" activities; it's only the third one that I consider going out of my way to do sports. I love the taste of water and prefer it over most other beverages so I generally drink tons of water (and often only water) without even thinking about it, which has the added bonus of keeping me from overeating. The bike commute is kind of a necessity which saves me money and stress by not having to squeeze into the super crowded transit systems in Beijing. Most of Beijing is flat, which makes this city super bike-friendly (minus the nightmarish traffic). I cycle everywhere I need to go, including to work 6k away and school 15k away so on any given day I'm riding at least 12k-30k. On the days that I cycle to campus AND play tennis for 2h there, I'm pretty much dead by the end of the day.
Is Chicago a bike-friendly city? If so, you should start cycling! It's fun, you'll meet cute courier/cyclist boys, and your butt/thighs/legs will look so good. Haha.

I am so grateful for all your advice. Honestly, I feel like my weight is an issue that has followed me for far too long with so many ups and downs and you have been so understanding through all my years of complaining. In terms of fitness, I am pretty active (I work out 4-5 times a week, either lifting or running), drink my water, eat my veggies & protein, etc. I just need to eat less. No more weekend bingeing haha. Biking and yoga are great ideas though! Will definitely look into those.
Looking forward to getting caught up on your blog/life!!
