Welcome to Johnny's World
Book signing day with Johnny at last!!! My partner in crime (who is still anonymous) and I showed up at the Beachwood, OH Borders around 2:30 pm to get wristbands for the 7 pm signing. Killed time browsing at Beachwood Place Mall (they had a Swarovski crystal store!!!) and going to dinner. Got back to Borders a little before 6 pm and the line was already about 40 people deep so we hopped in. Pretty soon I got Johnny's tweet that they had arrived in Beachwood...hurrah! I read my tweet out loud for people around me and noticed other people doing so up and down the line. At the end I think there were more than 100 people for the signing.
Johnny finally arrived wearing a black fur coat, lovely tight jeans, adorable gray boots with fur cuffs and "ironic" glasses. Tara and the camera crew were not in attendance, Joey Camasta (ooops, Eric Alt, I can't get my beauty bears straight--thanks
Sawkillriver ) came in with him. Johnny stood up on something and called out to thank everyone for coming and that he loved everyone. Johnny looked very tired and scruffy and skinny, of course lovely as always. The line moved super quickly and he didn't personalize at our signing because the line was so long. Johnny told us he'd be doing an audio version as soon as he has time. I asked him if he was holding up okay and he said he was but looking forward to spending the night in a hotel (hope he finds one to his standards in Toledo!) He told someone else he was wearing the glasses because his contacts were bothering him (I didn't know he wore them!) One of the girls ahead of us in line, who said she was a skater, had done a lovely drawing of the book cover and Johnny loved it saying she had made him "more ripped" than he really is!
We took a break to snap pics of the bus (but it was dark and the bus was dirty) and got some tea before deciding to wander over and get a last look at Johnny before hitting the road. People were lining up to get some extra items they had signed, like skates and posters, and also to get pictures with Johnny so we lined up with them. He was so sweet with everyone, holding his arms out and seeming very pleased to get so many pictures taken.
We had flowers sent to Borders for Johnny! I won't order online again, they were much smaller than I expected, but they will be lovely and easy to keep on the bus! Once we got there we asked if we could give them to Johnny ourselves and they were happy to bring them out to us.
Signing away as we waited in line....ohhhh, the anticipation!
The Welcome to My World "roadies" stood by while Johnny signed the books.
So, we got our picture taken with Johnny at the end, but somehow got cropped out of the picture ^_^ I admired his boots and he complained about how cold it's been.
Last, and least, short video of Johnny arriving. Forgive the clutter at the end, I can never figure how to turn it off >_<
