A little early this year, but here is the same New Year's survey I've been doing since 2004.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?

Had my writing talent affirmed. Held my first job. Went to the college. Traveled abroad completely independently.

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

1. Eat healthier and just all around better...no more skipping meals or just eating junk.
2. Work hard at school, and don't skimp on things.
3. Take better care of Tim, and be there for him whenever he needs me...even if he won't admit he does.
4. Don't work up my hopes too high over anything. Be open to alternate possibilities.

Those are last year's resolutions. I don't think I did a good job on one, but I know since college started I have on two. And three...yes and no. Four, definitely yes.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

France. Switzerland. The Netherlands. Ireland. Italy.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

Even more of a work ethic. Involvement in some clubs I never did/didn't have in high school. The ability to maintain a long-distance relationship.

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

June 21st and 22nd
I think those were the dates of prom and my high school graduation...
June 28-July 14
The trip to Europe I took with Tim.
October 13th-16th (or so)
Fall Break, when I made my college friends
November 21st, 2007
My two-year anniversary with Tim

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Starting college, and doing well in my first semester. (Still a presumption: where are my grades?)

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not getting the Cornwell writing scholarship. Fucking up my relationship with Tim.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

No.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My college education? My parents bought that. I don't know.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

My mother's. Tim's. Hanna's.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

My own, most recently.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Gifts. Movie tickets. Train tickets.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Prom and graduation. I wasn't excited about starting college, but I was excited about being there after a while. Tim. Having a job.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

Dance music, and Fidelity by Regina Spektor.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? both.
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter.
iii. richer or poorer? poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Thinking for myself.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Depending on others.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

Loudly: the Spilkas, the Avallones, and my maternal grandmother were here. Tim, too.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?

Actually, I fell a little out of love, with Tim. But I think that was bound to happen, and as it so happens, I think I've regained what I lost.

23. How many one-night stands?

I didn't sleep with Keith. But he's a one-night hook-up.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Tim got me hooked on Entourage.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Not really.

26. What was the best book you read?

Atonement is a safe bet. So is The House of Mirth. (Ian McEwan and Edith Wharton, respectively.)

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Spring Awakening.

28. What did you want and get?

Friends at college. Good grades. A new wallet for Christmas.

29. What did you want and not get?

The Cornwell writing scholarship.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Oh boy. Pan's Labyrinth (my first movie of 2007!), Atonement, Across the Universe, Juno, Paris Je T'aime.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Nothing hugely special. Dinner at the Soda Shop with Hanna and Karen, and many birthday packages. A countdown to midnight. I turned 18.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Getting the scholarship. Also, not having made this mess with Tim. Not being so human, I guess.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

Since Davidson, preppy all the way. Sweaters, layers, pastels. Etc.

34. What kept you sane?

Schoolwork, oddly enough. Always there, always constant. Made me insane, too, but sometimes it was a good thing. Tim of course. Always.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Jim Sturgess, gah. And James McAvoy. Me and my blue-eyed men...

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

The election is keeping me frustrated.

37. Who did you miss?

Tim, with a passion. My friends.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Wow! Hanna, Karen. Marybeth, Caroline. Oh, gosh. So many people. Kirsten, my roommate! Just, everybody.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007?

Think your own mind.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

Sorry
Is all that you cant say
Years gone by and still
Words dont come easily
Like sorry like sorry

Forgive me
Is all that you cant say
Years gone by and still
Words dont come easily
Like forgive me forgive me

But you can say baby
Baby can I hold you tonight
Maybe if I told you the right words
At the right time youd be mine

I love you
Is all that you cant say
Years gone by and still
Words dont come easily
Like I love you I love you

and some song I don't know about new beginnings.
