Hammers banging here

Last year the main entry deck needed replacing. As well, the two bedrooms and bathroom needed up to date, energy efficient windows. The two bedrooms are very small, one is 7 foot, 6 inches wide, the other just 8 feet. Can barely fit a single bed in the larger one. As the other work HAD to be done, I discussed what options were possible with dear brother.
We came up with a plan to bump out the wall 6 feet to enlarge the two bedrooms and the bathroom. A new deck - this time with a roof, will be built in front of this.
I could have just repaired the wall, replaced the deck and windows, but in the long run, the functioning of the house as a whole wouldn't be optimal. So, taking advantage of the line of credit the bank has seen fit to allow me, I've started the work. It's going to be tight financially,  but this is my planned retirement home and pension plan.

Some pre-reno pics

Pre-reno - the bump out will run from second window on left - current study, to second window on the right - current bedroom, craft stash room. Ice damaged the deck and siding. When the deck was removed, severe water damage to the lower wall was found. This has been fixed. Note old energy leaking windows. I've had plastic on them to cut down on heat loss each winter

Rotted deck and siding where they meet. This deck is over 14 years old and was built with non-treated lumber.

Last winter, the ice damaged the soffit.

Here's a pic of what is under the siding, not much insulation. Why didn't they insulate it properly when the new siding was put on?

home, reno
