Let me say this I shouldn't even be considering this as I have the 10 more $500 payments to make for Stevie Ray's last year at Metro Prep, my front deck is falling off and I have firewood to order, then there will be a new to me car in the next few months and the balance of my dental work coming in January. Never mind that I'm only working half time.
That being said, at least I can plot and dream.
My grandmother's engagement ring was passed on to my mother, who had it re-set after it sat in her drawer for I don't know how many years. I inherited it 14 years ago. Since then I have worn it once. I don't like the new setting. I have found a jeweler who does custom work, with the gold from the current ring and few bits and bobs from jewel box that I don't wear anymore, it will probably cost $500 to reset the ring. There are three sapphires and two diamonds.
I feel it is right that the ring should be kept and worn. I don't believe in keeping things unused. What's the point. I have nice china, good glasses, they are used on a regular basis. Why shouldn't I enjoy a glass of wine in a crystal glass? Dinner on a lovely plate?
In 2014 I will turn 60. Having the ring reset so I can enjoy it is part of my planned celebration. What else should I do?
I might consider getting the diamonds made into studs? Not sure if they are large enough.
Current setting pics - didn't know how hard it was to take pics of rings.
